Here for your consideration is my beloved 2021 (latest edition) size medium REEB Donkadonk fat bike. This was my dream fat bike until a 1-of-1 prototype fatty ended up in my possession, which is why I’m selling. For the uninitiated, the Donk is a highly coveted discontinued bike made in the USA by the folks at Oskar Blues Brewing (reeb = beer backwards). Even cooler, Burnsey from Oddity Cycles was lending a hand to help build frames.
There’s not a ton of information on this bike, but I’ve spent the last few years on hero snow groomers, breaking trail after a fresh snow, riding the frozen canals on Belle Isle, skidding down snowshoe panked double black diamond Marquette steeps, sandy northern Michigan forest roads, and flowy ribbons of summer singletrack— so ask me anything!
In that time I have ridden it with virtually every wheel size under the sun, so let me share some highlights:
- sliding Paragon Machine Works drop outs
- seat stay split for belt drive capability
- a geometry that’s not too nervous and not too slack
- tapered head tube for any fork you could ever want to run
- Clearance for 4.6” tires despite the 177mm spacing rear end (though you might get chain rub in the granny gear with this tire size— but there’s no shame in running a stubby cassette, internally geared hub, or single speed)
- loads of standover for a 170mm+ dropper, which helps when you’re shredding singletrack in the summer or trying to get back on your bike after making a snow angel in the winter
- It uses a very thoughtful tube set and is subsequently VERY light despite being steel (especially with the carbon fork)
As a size medium I think it’s best for someone 5’6” - 6’ (I’m 5’9” and in the picture the seatpost is a little low for me).
So for $3500, you get this beauty with the following parts:
- REEB Donkadonk size medium
- RSD Mayor carbon fork (I can also include a brand new Surly Ice Cream Truck fork & headset adapter for $100 to make your bikepacking dreams come true)
- Alexrims Blizzerk 70 27.5 rims— super light and easy to change drivers thanks to the PUB (Bitex OEM) hubs, XD driver, DT Swiss Competition Race spokes, and alloy nipples (only used for 262.2 miles)
- Bontrager Hodag tires (discontinued!! So fast, and barely any miles). Currently with tubes but will include tubeless valves.
- SRAM X01 11 speed drivetrain mated to a ZTTO 9-46 cassette
- SRAM GX 175mm cranks (barely used) w/ a brand new bottom bracket and brand new SRAM chain
- Chris King headset
- Avid BB7 brakes with Shimano Tiagra levers (Shimano Saint hydraulic brakes available for a $299 upgrade)
- Kona rigid seatpost (PNW 170mm dropper post w/ lever available for $125 upgrade)
- Race Face handlebars (barely used. I also have barely used Steve Potts Siskiyou bars which compliment this bike great for a $70 upgrade)
- PNW Range 60mm stem
My parts bin is pretty prolific so in the event you want an additional set of 26” rims or a 29” wheel + 3" tire let me know and we can work something out. Because this thing rips in the summer with a 29 x 3” rear and 27.5 x 4.5” front. I’m also happy to set it up single speed and knock some money off.
I’m based on the east side of Detroit, and I am happy to drive within a couple hours to meet up, especially if there’s good riding. I also head up to the Manistee National Forest fairly often. I’m happy to ship to the right person too— in the past people on marketplace have blessed me with rare parts like this so we can work it out with shipping on your dime.
Cheers,
Peter
