That seems reasonable in these circumstances. I just have a problem with “the code” in the ghetto where people are encouraged to keep their mouths shut about any kind of criminal activity going on around them. This isn’t really criminal activity though, it’s a matter of tort law. I personally would never get involved with a civil action unless I was forced to or stood to benefit from it.
yeah, just keeping your mouth shut about everything isn’t always a good idea. in my experience, that code in the ghetto, though, is because people don’t feel protected by law enforcement and feel that if they go to the cops they stand to lose as well, which sometimes leads to dealing with it personally like i’m talking about, but more often than not to just letting everything keep happening.
There’s a place in SF that rehabilitates convicts and does so quite successfully. It’s a rather involved process, but one of the tenets they follow is to make an individual’s success dependent on others. “Snitching” is not only encouraged, it is mandatory.
So I was riding to work this morning and I saw a bunch of emergency response vehicles and a guy holding a black bike with a very familiar neon green Turbo so I stopped. What the guy was holding was my cousin and former roommate’s Fuji which was smashed and buckled in several places. Kevin was in an ambulance and one of the EMTs told me where they were taking him so I met the ambulance at the hospital. Kevin is mostly all right and was in pretty good spirits all things considered and we joked and bullshitted in the waiting room. Then they took him in for xrays and I went to work.

Fullerton and Clark?
If so I heard about that NPR 'cause of the traffic backup that resulted. I kind of thought it might be you for a second!
Glad to hear shit is OK.
So, I’m cruising home from child birth classes this evening riding the bart with pookie. Some girl in a wheelchair gets on the bart. At some point in the ride the girl says, “hey, hey!”. Turns out, she’s an old friend that I hadn’t seen in a while. Ask her why she’s in a wheelchair and guess what she says?
that strip is one of the worst, it doesn’t seem to matter if it’s the weekday or weekend. everyone seems like they’re clueless out of towners.
that must have been pretty terrifying the second you saw that bike crumpled up, glad he’s ok.
It was seriously one of the most gorgeous bikes with a perfect Sante group.
I ran into a car who pulled an illegal u-turn the same day, but the steamroller is built to handle some hard fuckin hits. Stayed upright and clipped in, even! Black and blue all up my right side but other than that, fine!

That’s right, hit by a car. WTH.
thats awful. for good?
Don’t think so. She’ll be fine. This is friend #2 that’s been hit and in a wheelchair. Another friend of mine got hit a few years back and was seriously damaged. He hasn’t been the same since. He was wheelchair bound for 6 months or so. I welded up a wheelchair ramp for his house.
