Aw man, I invested in a retail pack hoping this would finally be the one.
After watching that video Iâd back this project based on the foley-work alone!
decadently unzips tire and crisply rolls away
you could probably store excess groceries in the zippered portion.
Curious about the market for this one. People who live in very harsh winter climates with poor snow removal, but who still bike in the winter, yet donât care about their bikes enough to do basic maintenance?
Iâve had a couple of days where the snow was extremely wet and froze on the rear casette, causing chain slippage in the lower gears, but I donât know that it would necessitate moving the entire system to the top tube.
It looks like an internal hub mounted mid-drive with a cog bolted to the drive side flange. The only thing it âsolvesâ is reducing odds of water ingress into the hub.
Itâs just students doing a student project.
Yeah, I bet none of those nerds even ride a bike in winter
The problem theyâre solving isnât even really a problem, but whatever.
Couldnât they solve this whole problem with a very nice chain guard?
Thatâs just a crappy reinvention of the Pinion drive.
Looks like a cheapo Zerode G2.
I bet if you asked any of the student designers of any of these j/a ârevoultionary bike innovationsâ that theyâd probably be like whatever, it was a project and they forced us to reengineer something that was fine and pretend like it was a big deal.
Exactly my first thought
Or like Shimano Alfine or any other internal geared hub.
As a former engineering student and current practicing engineer (in the hopes Iâll be not shit at it some day), SO. MUCH. THIS.
These âprojectsâ are mostly about demonstrating team work, the fact that youâve understood the requirements, or identifed some requirements, and that your design actual meets those requirements, requirements donât have to be realistic or have and chance of commercial success or real world application.
Okay so then why is this idea getting attention
Because itâs easy content. Itâs just a blog post that some bike nerds are making fun of 8 months later.
Presumably writing a press release was one of the course requirements?
