Hey, what's your Sundeal?

My Nü Tarck Fü isn’t so good: whatever thread we were discussing the Surly rack in had a photo of a strut like that, I think.

Too much Butt Drubs

But the way this basket is connected to the bike is way more sketchy than any way this thing could possibly be designed in the first place.

[Edit] quick Google didn’t bring anything up. If this thing fails, it’ll be all my fault.

No, if they were to be recalled it would have been 50 years ago.

I noticed a fix for your super long eyelet bolts in single shear

use a 135mm rear QR on the front with spacers, and sandwich the struts in that

Wasn’t officially my kludge. I can blame that on Rob. But it’s worked so far.

Will look into the long QR bodge. Won’t there be an issue with the QR nuts not contacting the frame? Feels like that’s an important component.

That’s what the spacers would be for. It doesn’t matter if it’s the actual qr skewer as long as it’s flat and sits in the dropout properly, where a smashed in rack mount usually doesn’t.

Yeah. I felt bad handing it off that way, but for the life of me I cannot find the solid axle I bought for the front wheel.

What was the fender decision for these things? Cascadia?

The spacers that were being used were too small in diameter to get good purchase on the dropout. Found some washers that look to be the same diameter as the gnurled surface on the QR ends and used them with some thick washers I pulled off of some old canti brake pad holders. I only needed about a cm to get the rack stays away from the fork blades. I did have to lower the rack to beyond the lowest setting so the two parts of the stays aren’t sitting totally flush at the ends. Not sure I can fix that outside of cutting the stays.

just dremel that little bit of extra stay?

hey i think i saw your sundeal at that surly thing. the guy riding it was probably you.

Would if I had a dremel.

It likely was me riding it. That was sundeal 2.0’s maiden voyage.

Currently in the middle of it’s second trip. Went to get a burrito at a place that’s twice as far away as I needed to go just because it’s a beautiful evening.

Got one if you need it

Might do.

First ride with new rack set up was mostly successful. Loaded basket with 6pack, some fizzy water and a burrito. Would be happy with a little extra bracing. Is there a rack made for 20" wheels?

Take some measurements. I have a Specialized Pizza rack that might fit perfect, and it has some adjustability via those triangular cheese plates.

Most racks meant for use on a standard fork’s lowrider bosses will in theory fit a mini velo, though may ride a bit high. The other options are something with adjustable struts, like a Civia, Rawland, or Nitto versions.

I should have tried it while the Sundeal was in my possession but didn’t.

iirc that lil racktime topit or whatever works a treat on 20” wheels

What measurements do you need?

Dropout to brake hole in the crown is 29cm.

It does not play well with the sundeal drop outs AT Fucking ALL

Just ordered one of these with included tail hook lengthener. Interested to see if it works without any further upgrades.
(the 8spd one, not 10spd)
