I’m really not a fan of the welded on front rack on only one side, chainguard, and coaster brake. Maybe the coaster is kinda rad, but the one rack and chainguard? come on.
Right, you guys get it. He’s chasing a dream of being fulfilled by something, pushed further by the let down of the last dream attained. That shit is cool until you experience it and meet the people and realize they suck. So then you push further and try to reach the next level above because surely they must be different. Until the only “next level above” is Bruce Fucking Gordon, the man who no one likes but everyone reveres if only for his craftsmanship. Get in his good graces and you’re set.
oh wait. You’ve lost your job and any ACTUAL good graces you’ve built up in the community for the past 20 years and now you’ve been ostracized and are begging for money on the internet.
In other words, he’s well on his way to being the next bike cool guy:
No friends, check
No social skills, check
Burned bridges, check
Cabin in the woods, check
Terrible bikes, check
laser beam, check
acid, check
body bag, check

Do you folks like coffee
yeah its great
My experience was that coffee is always welcome when I was in three different shops, so I gave it a whirl today. Brought some cold brews in as a thank you for a cardboard box. Might have also helped with motivation that it’s motorbacon’s shop… but still haha
People like coffee, sure.
As far as tips go, I’ve always preferred things which can be shared widely, so fancy sodas, a box of cookies, etc. That or money.
Pro tip: He’d do almost anything for a double espresso. Over ice on a hot day.
Oh heck yes. Duly noted!
Yeah, I always preferred coffee over beer as a shop tip pretty much any time before 5pm.
Oh shi. That was you? I thank you! (I apologize for the floor staff. Some of the guys are essentially functioning as place holders (not Alex! He’s cool)).
Drank two of them and that’s the only way I was able to get through my day.
Yeah, it’s cool that my fridge has been stocked for the last 3 months with free beer from customers, but it doesn’t help when I’m trying to cut down on beer.
Coffee (or double espresso…) are great .
Some fun bits from my week.
Customer brought in this Campy Zonda rear wheel. He literally ripped it apart. I built him up a 240/Belgium Plus. He feedback was rad after shooting him an email asking how it worked out.
“Wheel was great! There was an noticeable difference while racing some friends to the top of some climbs. Every time I’d put on the gas, the wheel would just respond so quickly. It was also insanely smooth going down long descents. So thank you!”
HD3 pivot went boom. This guy has had the worst of luck, warranty wise. Brakes, Cane Creek DBiL twice, rear triangle.
Came back from a long weekend to this fantastic work order
It’s always important to ask first, don’t wanna get beer for someone who doesn’t drink or meat and cheese pizza for a vegan.
i don’t work in a shop, but i try to do people favors when i can. i always appreciate it when people ask if i drink beer. i am the worst to buy things for because i drink neither beer nor coffee. i tell people they can buy some balleur chocolate or something.
Had a customer bring in about 50 home made snicker doodle cookies a couple months back. Stoke level was though the roof!
The thing is there are really good chocolate chip cookies available almost everywhere but when you get a snickerdoodle that’s just right (perfectly sour and sweet And the perfect crispy or gooey) it’s like heaven has opened up its recipe book for the mortals
Sour? Bro, do you even cookie?
Yea, WTF
Sour cream and/or cream of tartar are often used as leavening ingredients
Sounds like you guys know your way around the baking well enough
