Holy shit/Bike Shop lulz

There isnt.

because this is 100% not who i am or anything i could ever do, i find it funny to imagine trolling customers like that. say, by putting a new tube in and hitting it with the compressor, while staring them in the face, until the damn thing explodes. then giving a nonplussed shrug like i don’t understand what the problem is, and doing it over and over and over while they watch

any of you shop rats run into issues with xt m8000 brakes lately? specifically with the rear, i’ve consistently been getting very slow lever return out of the box on new builds and had a similar issue on an aftermarket brake. shortening the hose and installing a new olive and barb seemed to help on one, as if there was grease or somesuch from factory install impeding oil flow? not sure. just very much not been the pow pow feel one is accustomed to.

.

I would say xt8000 brakes are the best mtb wet dick brakes on the market. What is your bleed process? You should bleed disc brakes out of the box. And if you cut hose a bleed is 100% required for customer bikes. That said I just installed some $30 altus(lol) hydros on my gunnar ruffian. Cut the hoses. Did not bleed. Lever feel is close to 9020.

just got my new SC with the m8000 brakes. didnt notice any weird level feel out of the box. i cut and did a lever bleed on both brakes with pretty minimal bubbles and everything feels good. can’t tell any difference in lever feel from my m7000 brakes.

But the speed holes in the levers! Sup liked feel of lever blades from camber, thus why we put them on Hail and now stumpy.

how can you cut the hose without bleeding it again? How do you get a new barb in without getting oil absolutely everywhere?

A vise helps a lot. Cut the hose and the get it into the vise with the cut end pointing up. Use the plastic blocks with the half-round indentations to cradle the hose in the vise, inch of hose proud of the blocks and vise. Olive on, tap barb in with mallet. The fluid wants to weep out, not gush. If you keep the cut end up, don’t whip the hose around, you don’t lose much. I’ve done two sets of Deores and not had to bleed either.

This is helpful. While I do bleed customers’ brakes after a hose cut just cuz, if you’re careful it usually feels like it’s not strictly necessary.

On Shimano wet brakes there is absolutely a correlation between the price going down and increased tolerance to skipping the bleed after shortening lines.

Any idea why?

My hunch is a combination of less “features” and the knowledge that thousands of low end hybrids and mtbs need to be smanged together rapidly.

probably also why the xt brakes are better than the xtrs.

Ease of installation in a factory setting. Pleasing manufacturers is literally the only thing Shimano cares about. What happens at the bike shop or home user level is literally not a concern to them.

NNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

also why I think I like my deore brakes better than any other shimano grabbers.

Yeah so back to bike shop lulz
Remember when you called me an asshole for saying it was physically impossible to mount a horizon with a tube to a wtb freq? Well, went to the bike shop and they spent 4 tubes trying to get it on there and then told me “no fucking way, tubeless only”
Nyah Nyah told you so
I was only using the tube to get the bead set but then it became a challenge

Don’t you have a thread for this?
