Nicely done!
Atmo, building a wheel is way easier than this biz.
But that’s coming from someone who’s (poorly) built a lotta wheels.

I do really want to do that. Would save tons of money. Maybe next time! But really though? This was essentially just servicing a freehub when you get right down to it. If you look at the whole picture though I could see that.

Felt like a little quick win / instant gratification today and put stuff on the bars.

Got the Oury V2s in the gum colour (Blue Lug special!)

Levers are Dia-Compe SS6

But wait, the cast-in Dia-Compe logotype is upside down!

Maybe old news to some but I was like WTH. That’s how it is though. Same part on both sides, one is just flipped. Makes sense. Why make two dies?

Toyota and probably other car makers did the same thing with some parts, like horn buttons on the steering wheel.

Anyway, here’s the non-upside-down one

Then we have the stem from @jame5on and rad Tarck sticker from @Timarchylime

Found a nice little plug for the bolt hole.

The OG Suntour XC expert 8-speed indexed thumb shifter off the RockHopper.

Nice to see parts on things.

Got this in today and I’m pretty excited about it.

The silver part is what I got - Fork Side GoPro / kLite Mount from Jefe, a company I had never come across before.

For an under-rack light mounting solution for my Magicshine HORI 1300, I was going to rig something up using an “out front” mount for Garmins & the like from Rockbros, but then I got the EdSen Coffee Rack in (https://www.instagram.com/edwanbao/), and saw that it had bosses, which I had overlooked before, so I figured it would be a lot cleaner to use one of those.

Of course I went back and forth on that, wanting to mount the light dead center on the rack because I thought that would be best, but seeing so many people mounting lights off to one side under a rack, I figured it’s probably fine, so I set out to find some kind of mount. This is the only thing I found that really did exactly what I wanted - a metal GoPro mount that just has a hole opposite the fingers on the mount side.

I got some cheap Garmin to GoPro mount off Amazon for the light side. It’s aluminum though!

Jefe includes a number of things with this little part, including this double-ended hex socket stud, which is nice.

There are a few ways you could mix-n-match this, like you don’t even really have to use that barrel-looking thing with the knurled part in the center if you wanted to just jam a bolt through only the GoPro mount part into the rack boss, and I may end up doing that - who knows! You can kinda roll your own solution with this thing. I was just mocking things up because I was pumped. I like the idea of it though since it brings the light more inward.

I will likely find a smaller washer that maybe nests into the bracket thing for a cleaner look, if I even end up using that.

Edit: Haha whoops, just noticed the light is upside-down in the photos. (I have the male part that you twist into the mount on the top and bottom because it’s going to be shared between this bike and my Pista where it’s top-mounted.)

Will the rack stays clear the light head? No idea! I put one up to where it mounts, and it looks like it will, but it will be a while before I know for sure.

Now that I’ve paid $41.95 with shipping for this small part, what else is out there that does this exact thing?

I’m all for supporting smaller & lesser known operations like this, which is why I had no problem paying what it cost, but surely this can’t be the only thing out there that lets you mount a Magicshine light to a rack.

PDW has the Light Nug, but you would be using the 22 mm adapter instead of the machined mount.

You got it!

I actually bought it from Bicycle Express in San Jose. Whoever replied to my Instagram message at EdSen sent me to them since the racks were already in the US, and the whole deal was done via the gram and Venmo. It’s the future!

I forgot how I stumbled upon that rack but I saw no downsides to it. It was between a Pelago, Soma, and Surly 24-pack but then this popped up and I couldn’t resist.

This makes me a lot less mad at how much these cost.

I lost out on some green ones (for MUCH cheaper) and honestly I was planning on doing purple in the rear and green in the front for contrast, but I forgot to bid on the green ones. They weren’t really the “right” green anyway though. More than happy with these.

I also have a set of silver ones, one of which is going to turn into the seatpost binder. More on that later.

Why does new purple ano look different than it did back then?

Probably cancer

It should look the same since I believe these are from back then. I can’t find new ones anywhere in any colors other than silver or black.

They’re also titanium which may be a factor.

it looked more like this. newer stuff looks like a topcoat instead of coloring the aluminum. seems like a different process

also your levers are still aluminum. the skewers are ti I think

Ooooo @jame5on upon further inspection it looks like you’re right! (No surprise there)

Didn’t notice this before. And they are in too good of condition to be 20+ years old, or even 10.

Here’s an older one:

Looks like the ones even older than this and without the logo don’t even have anything on the back.

Design change on the nut side as well.

Also, bingo @LASER_BEIGE.

Whatever their age or color, I’m pretty happy with how they look against the frame colors.
