how much $ have you sunk into your taiwanese track frame?

Now to those who have spent a lot of money on track frame, who has actually really used their track bike on the track? I’m not gonna lie, mine hasn’t yet but I plan to go get cert’d for the velodrome in Carson.

I have. im sure most members have, man.

nearest 'drome is like an hour fourty, though I’ve gone and ridden a couple times for shits, but nothing serious, just hung out for an afternoon cause its open to the public.

i have one. am i cool?

my frame has brake and bottle mounts because i don’t ride the track. i’m ok with it.

my taiwanese “track bike” has purple flat bars on it cause I like to turn right

my american “track bike” has full fender mounts cause i keep it for real

I think a lot of people there have ridden on a velodrome, but based on the posting in the “Track Season” threads, it would seem as though there are only a small handful of us who actually race in organized and sanctioned events.

I have a Taiwanese frame with a full 7800 DA group on it. I think I win.

Pics or gtfo

It’s been posted here before:

It’s hard to look at it with the saddle that far forward. I used to ride around like a triathlete.

I had a ton, and then I upgraded the frame!

that’s the only picture i have of it. it was taken before i bent the basket and put on the brooks and started scratching the fuck out of the paint.

also: i noticed that the screws from the wald have cut into the handle bars. it’s a little disconcerting.

your frame is fine. chill out[/quote]

Kilo TT’s arent exactly ideal track geometry… and i’ve been riding it at the track, so…

Less than $100 into my Steamroller, and I’m nearly happy with it. Having shit loads of spares and working in a shop pretty much rules.

It’s never seen a velodrome, and most likely won’t since there isn’t one local to me. If I lived near a velodrome, it would at least see some action in cert/development classes and a few races in 4/5’s. But I don’t, so it won’t.

Total after shipping: $850.42, which is CDN $1001.79.

I bought the Angus frameset at my LBS for I believe $400 + tax, so let’s call it $450 (this sounds horrendous until you realize CDN $450 is about USD $381, and IRO charges USD $319 for the frameset something like USD $60 shipping to Canada, and that’s BEFORE Canada takes their 14% tax at the border, plus any duties I might incur).

WASTED money on a crappy seatpost and too-tall stem at my LBS just to get the bike running, I think they ran me $60 total. Another $80 for the front brake and Tektro cross levers. Then spent $50 on the modolo hoods. $100 on the current tires. Maybe $50 on the crap-tastic tires they replaced.

I’m looking at CDN$1791.79 so far. That’s not including all the tools I bought, which could easily total $500, but that doesn’t really count.

Moral of the story: BUY COMPLETE!!!

In case anyone hasn’t read it, here’s the link to the BikeSnob article. It’s one of his best, I think.

i remember reading that and i kind of agree. however, i couldnt afford much more at the time and little by little my bike is getting nicer while still being usuable the whole time.

I had managed to build my old GB IRO up for about $500 with DA track wheels, EC90 carbon fork, Superbe cranks and a King headset by flipping bikes and keeping parts

i would definitely go to encino first and get some time on that thing before you go to adt. you’ll get some good tips from dingo and nate and learn some track etiquette. adt is definitely not the place to start riding the velodrome. 46 degree banking is serious business. plus, roger and andrew won’t certify you unless they’re 100% confident in your ability to ride with others.
