how much $ have you sunk into your taiwanese track frame?

i guess zelah is gonna “win” this one, and i’m too lazy to look up the relevant bikesnobnyc post about how much a $500 kilo tt pro actually costs you, but… here is my tally.

ouzo pro fork - 30

no-name 25.4 stem - 35
sakae drops - free, basically

like 800 or something. dang. but most of that stuff came off my previous build.

hmmm

I bought an 03 Pista for $400. It had Open Pros to Sakae hubs and a Stronglight crankset. I think I sold the F&F for $200 and transplanted all the parts to my Kilo. Then I swapped out the bars for some Syntaces ($15), but now it’s got track drops on it again. Also, it sometimes sports a bottlecage.

So maybe $220, plus some Armadillos?

free saddle

surly cog 20 bucks

i had a tawainese bike but sold it without making any real upgrades besides pedals, saddle and bars. i think i dropped $100 at most into it.

I have a Spicer (aka Kilo) with a King headset, Phil/Open Pro wheels, 75s, a NOS Suntour post, a NOS Salsa stem Nitto 177s, Brooks Pro and an Ultegra brake.

Kind of stupid I guess, but I didn’t pay new retail on any of this shit. AYHSMB.

holy fucking shit. on the plus side, the stock wheels and crankset made for quite a nice winter beater/polo bike, and i can sell some of the extra crap. even if i win this thread i still feel like a huge loser.

btw, if anybody needs a 48t FSA pro track chainring, or 68x111mm ISO square taper campy veloce BB, they’re for sale. and if you’re really interested in some scuffed up and cracked 170mm ofmega mistrals, i guess those are for sale too.

hate to say it, but most bikes are made in taiwan. i read that most “italian” bikes are even made in taiwan, unless you hit a certain price opint ($6k+ for road bikes)

Read it in a bike magazine a couple months back. the majority of frames will come out of taiwan

Tells all.

that link is very freaking spot on.

nitto s72 seatpost 60
fizik arione 45

$995

$70 brooks
$52 front wheel and tyre
$30 set of blue michelin tyres
$30 tricolor shimano cranks
$10 18t cog
$5 for the battery for the cycling computer i already have

I had a fuji track for a few years. I think all I changed was the headset and the rear wheel plus some other small parts.
105 threaded HS - $25
Phil to DeepV rear - $250
Chopped bullhorns - free
Spd’s - swapped from another bike

In my defense, I only replaced those parts when the stock parts were trashed (which happened pretty fast since I didn’t know how to take care of my shit yet).

kilo tt $350
pedals/clips/straps $70
new bars/grips $22
tubes $30?
tires $50
seat $50
brake set up $60?
tires $65
clipless pedals $45
chains $25
new wheelset/cog/lockring $330ish
sold old wheels for $40

so i guess kind of a lot, but worth it.

+1 No Taiwanese tarck for me, 3 American made frames and an Italian in my stables.

I have somewhere around $700 total into my IRO BFSSFGGB Angus, but if I had gotten all the parts new or at full retail it would have cost twice that much.
