it’s corona pass if you’re coming up the winter park side, and rollins pass on the rollinsville side atmo. not sure why though lol
there used to be a town up there called corona, but history mumblers often criticize when people call it corona pass
i don’t care too much one way or the other, the winter park side is definitely a nicer ride though atmo
I’m in Vermont. i had a very @dumpsterlife ride. i was in a hurry to get out and I threw a real quick route together. sadly for me it had a thousand foot loose gravel climb. which meant when i got to the top and saw this “private property” sign with the route taking me off to the left, I was not interested in turning around.
which is what I should have done because I was on my road bike. so i was pretty quickly on snowmobile trails which were alternating between big rocks, downed trees, and mud. and a big open field of waist high grass. crashed over the bars twice.
i finally got to a point at which it really stopped being even a snowmobile trail. lucky that was at an intersection with another trail! so i changed direction.
this all caused me to be behind schedule to get home in time for dinner with my wife so i then had to hammer the entire way home and now I’m really tired
Well-fed snake!
looks like fun! where are you and how long are you here?
we’re at stratton mountain. my son has a ski camp. we leave thursday around noon. where do you live?
there’s a lot of drama to this as well as when they designated indian peaks wilderness, they had an agreement to maintain an automotive route over the pass. when the tunnel collapsed, boulder county decided it was better to just keep it closed and has never maintained their side. grand county continues to maintain the road all the way up (to some extent…).
not sure if you ventured that way, but due to an odd exception, part of roger’s pass is not part of indian peaks so you can bike up it to the divide and get to the wilderness border. it’s a pretty sweet view from that spot where you can see over both sides. i did this once and planned to hike up james peak, but weather was coming in.
i’ve driven up the corona side in my old FWD mazda and it was slow but doable. rollins, not so much.
oh nice! i’m in middlesex which is about 5 miles north of montpelier. prolly a bit far to get a ride in
Vermont: annoyingly tall state
Months ago I heard someone (and their son?) had cleaned up an old bike trail on the local hill. Oh boy, this is quite the shred portal:
Chickened out of riding down this, but the first time I do I know it’s going to become a favorite part of trail up here. Can someone come ride with me so I can try some things that feel sketchy and not think I’m gonna KO myself alone in the woods?)
Like the only part of this trail that isn’t extremely steep but it’s a loose bench cut somewhere well above the waterfall below (file photo)
After that it is just loose.
I’ve only got like 3 little sections left to clean after 2 rides, which is way better than I thought I’d be doing. But I also feel like I want a chest protector all of a sudden?
What’s in each bottle?
Right now? air. I needed a place to put the bottles, so why not put them on the bike?
A difficult and hot 75 mile road ride with 33% gravel roads. Only a little over 2k of climbing but one of those routes that feels like you are constantly on the gas to keep from losing momentum. Spent most of it with the same group until I started cramping a bit and realized I yet again underestimated needed calories. Not a bad day regardless but one that I’m happier to have banked towards fall goals more so than anything else.
The aid station was amazing. The final church water stop saved my life.
I got back to the trail head and a small mom looking lady pulled up. Assembled this big ass antenna. Got out a step stool to mount it on the roof and then climbed into her tinted rear seat.
Very whippy antenna. And 75f out w/ lots of downed trees
