I went for a ride today and here are some photos

Do people really not put on studded tires in winter where roads ice up?

I swear here, you can hear the velcro clickety clack on every bike the first day after temps go below zero.

We get like maybe one day a year with ice like this. I ain’t pushing around a 100 pound bike with studded tires for three months just in case we get some freezing rain one night. Maybe I should put studs on my spare wheelset for quick swaps.
Hmmm

I’m just glad I didn’t dump it with Ro in the box. Kids hate that.
We did see a guy on a Brompton go down like a block from the school.

Out of work early, 75°, 40 miles.

Legs are a bit cooked from the 30 miles and 2000’ of climbing yesterday but dammit if it’s this nice in February I’m going to be out.

Got caught in a very unexpected rain shower but it was warm and I have good fenders.

my friend had plans for a 100 mile ride for his birthday yesterday. we made a route that went from Denver up to Central City, a cool old mining town turned gambling town, and back through Golden. the night before, he chopped a good chunk of his finger up trying to adjust his caliper while his wheel was spinning. I’d already taken the day off so figured I’d go anyways. it was like mid 60s and sunny all day and I only encountered ice in a couple very short sections. I was expecting some really wet gravel roads up around 9,300 feet but it was super dry. ended up finishing with around 9,500 feet of elevation gain and I am still very tired

Pretty dry here.

How dare you I hate posting pictures of my bike.

35 miles and 3100’ today. Haven’t ridden in this area since Helene came through.

This is NZ and not CA?!?

Ha ha. Yeah. My american buddy goes “wow, pretty”. I just laugh. Very few people here would call that kind of view scenic. This area used to be a farming and orchard type area when I was a kid. My dad grew up near here. Now it is 100% grapes. Mostly Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc I think. Morning Ride | Strava

Driest I’ve ever seen NZ. That’s more like central west NSW.

And apparently, the summer has been so shit, that it’s not even “dry” . Normally at this time of the year this area (The Wither Hills) is closed due to fire risk !

Just got back from the Philippines but I got a nice lil ride in with the owners of Geezer’s and Tambay Cycling Hub in La Union. I’d love to get back to that spread preferably up in the mountains on my own bike.

I realized the annual fatbike overnighter is really just a “take a cool looking orange tent in snow picture” event

Return of the Escape from the Super Bowl Campout was this weekend

it wouldn’t be a camping trip without me getting a flat a half mile away from camp

i climbed up to the top of Mt. Tam on the way home and had an oatmeal and hot chocolate lunch before heading home

I’ve been out of the rhythm of riding regularly (mostly due to travel) so it’s great to be back on the local loop. Ice was a lot sketchier than a few weeks ago so I was just on it for a little bit. Fat bike was overkill but it’s the bike with studded tires so away we go!

Looks like my kinda ride!

You’re in Chicago right? I’ll be out there Saint Patrick’s Day weekend (coincidence, not on purpose) and am looking to get into some ATB shenanigans that Sunday if you have any tips. If there’s not much urban dirt tom foolery I’ll just go ride up to the Baháʼí temple methinks.
