I went for a ride today and here are some photos

What rear panniers?

it’s these dudes right here. first trip with them and so far they’re great, haven’t had a chance to test them in the rain though. i’m mostly stoked about the bombproof attachment system. my ortleibs have served me well for a long time, but they used to fly off the rack on bumpy stuff, these are solidly attached and can’t go anywhere.

edit: these are the 21l ones

Nice, they look much bigger in real life than I thought.

They seem pretty sufficient. Between the tailfin 10l bags up front and the pans, it should be ~62 liters just between those bags. for an overnighter they were basically empty.

I have the North St Micro Commuter that I use on the front. If you have a DIY spirit, moving the attachment points is relatively simple.

Over 20k feet of descending in whistler this weekend. Cooked.

Went for a ride sunday. Was waiting for buddy when another long lost buddy turned up. Hes 75 now apparently. He was riding out to the Hutt Valley to ride with a friend. Hed been touring in South Korea with another friend recently he told me. Then I rode up to the golfball (500 m vert) and met an 80 year old couple on analog bikes. She was smashing him. While we were chatting, another buddy rode up. Hed just ridden up from the opposite direction via the very rough mtb only tip-track on his gravgrav (10% average but waaaay steeper in places). He was on the way to visit his dad 83, in a dementia ward. Crazy isnt it? One dad in a ward and another climbing 500 metres for fun on a sunny sunday.
Found another porcini spot… guarded by that hairy cow beast.

Hit all the downtown singletrack on my gravel bike today. Glad I got to do something a bit different, I’ve been very unmotivated to ride lately.

The sewage treatment facility has a pretty sick mural to distract you from how it smells:

First mtb ride since bby was born (almost two years ago :head_shaking_vertically:)

I think I need to bleed my brakes. I’ve gotten a lot worse at descending lol

A short evening ride into darkest Clackamas County:

I may be pudgy (and old) these days, but that’s not gonna stop Hot Crone Summer™:

And the obligatory couple of trolley pictures:

… plus one picture of a Type 1 that I just missed:

I’m trying to go out in the later afternoons until my skin has toasted enough to do a 100k without burning off, but that’s keeping me to short loops.

lots of nice blooming flowers up on south table mountain today.

then I put my foot down on the downhill slope to yield to a mountain biker who was climbing uphill and fell into a bush. I’m sure it was very funny to witness

I almost got bit by a baby rattlesnake on Table Mountain.

a friend of mine worked up there for the county that manages the park and said his coworker showed him where there was a giant rattlesnake nest in the middle of the park. i can’t remember if that was on north table or south table. but they’re definitely out there in numbers!

Like Africa table mountain? I was there about 8 years ago. Saw no sneks

The table mountain I’m talking about is outside Golden Colorado. I was there trying to sport climb on smooth black rock in direct sun on a 95 degree day. It was un fun but Golden seemed nice.

I escaped Manhattan today. We decided we didn’t have enough time for the 40+ mile route via GW and Tappan Zee. Good call cause even the 30 miles we rode took a while with a pit stop or two.

Tbh the east side of the river is so meandering compared to the west that I’m not sure how much time you saved. West side is like a straight shot.

Peak summer riding conditions today. I went through two water bottles in an hour of riding, then had a super burrito while sitting in our kiddie pool
