That bashguard is rad, where can I get one?
i got one as well… tony said they were trying to ship everything w/in 2 days yesterday. i could have gotten the mark v, but i have a kilo, although i also have a crosscheck. i’m just sick of swapping parts on the crosscheck, b/c it has been my touring bike, commuter, winter ride, grocery getter, and cyclocross race bike at different points in time.
i’m glad they come with a fork, i wasn’t even sure. also, i can barely afford to build it, even though i am probably only short a chainring/bolts, and canti brakes.
As far as cranksets go, I’d just get a set of Truvativ Elitas and a BBG bashguard. You can get the crankset+BB for like 100 bucks if you dig deep enough.
which bike should i race/is lighter? crosscheck or rob roy?
If you don’t mind racing SS, I’d just race the Rob Roy and keep the CC as a commuter.
My RR is definitely lighter than my CC ever was. I’d say it’s a little “sportier,” as well, but that’s hard to nail down.
So it’s like a Corsica Eurosport, rather than a base model Corsica.
This made me chuckle. ES all the way.
yeah, i probably will, and i’m already racing ss… and killing it.
really? i guess my cc is pretty damn heavy. i think i will race the rob roy then.
The websites’ numbers say:
56 cm Rob Roy frame - 4.1 lbs
56 cm Crosscheck frame - 4.88 lbs
And for what it’s worth, the complete Crosschecks I’ve handled feel like complete tanks, but I s’pose a lot of that’s due to the stock componentry n’ what not.
My crosscheck weighs a fucking ton and I built it from the frame up and it’s got a fixed wheel at the moment.
i want a rob roy. someone sell me a 54.
here is how you get a bashgaurd and a DAMN NICE crankset.
get on nashbar, and buy an older set of 105 cranks, a road double mind you.
find the bb spindle length needed to space to the desired chainline for the inner ring.
hacksaw the teeth off of the biggest cheapass chainring you can find and put it on the outside. Older chainrings, like the ones with the big semicircle oval cutouts work best. Hit the nubs with a bastard file if you want.
bashgaurded.
Edit:
shazam!!
thems the mutherfuckers you want.
really popular design in the 70’s 80’s and early 90’s fars as I can tell, should be findable on dumpster bikes and older schwinns and shit. They are generally shimano I think.
fuck… i think i may have gotten the wrong size. i ride a 56cm crosscheck, and the 56 rob roy is more like a 52cm crosscheck. i couldn’t find the geo on the iro site, but i just found it somewhere else.
56cm crosscheck: 56cm ST (C-T); 57cm TT (C-C)
56cm rob roy: 52cm ST (and i read this is center to top of seatpost collar); 55cm TT (C-C I assume)
-edit-
i think i would need a 120mm stem and super-long seatpost, as i have long legs, and my crosscheck already shows quite a bit of post.
Sell it to Jim. Has yours shipped? Not me
no, although i was billed already. i was kinda hoping someone would tell me it’ll fit fine with a longer stem and post.
plus, if i do sell it i was gonna try to profit.
i’d love to take it off your hands if you do sell. just sayin’.
I JUST GOT AN E_MAIL SAYING MINE HAS BEEN SHIPPED!!! yes yes yes ye sy esy eys eyse sye sye yse yseysey yes yes yes!!
edit:
nice! I can’t wait for the build thread.
