it wouldn't be tarck without a dyno thread

Super DQ: First timer dyno light-er.

-Where do I buy from via interwebs
-What busch and muller front light is the current go-to
-Does it come with all the wires I need
-Want to run Secula fender mount, any reason not to?

Setting all up on sup’s commuter / townie so going all in on fop/adorbs. Front hub is a Shimano 3W w/ Lego connector. If more info is needed for the collective, I will provide.

Please and thank you.

I think the iq cyo premium or that axa blue line 50 that @drwelby is testing.

The secula comes with wiring to connect to the headlight. The headlight comes with wiring to connect to the hub.

Also bike-discount.de is a good source.

This is the correct front light according to the database.

I highly recommend the Cyo Premium. Get it without the daytime lights, as the models without have a slightly brighter main LED.

It will come with the cords you need, so all you need to do is trim length and insert into LEGO.

If the bike has a rear rack, I’d recommend the top light plus, actually. It’s much bigger than the secula.

For adorbs you could also consider the Trelock LS905 since it comes in red and blue and doesn’t look too space-age. These are very bright lights with excellent optics. The beardo reflector comes off.

For the rear light the Secula is the gold standard but I’d also order the smaller Hermanns H-Trace Mini since it’s like 5 Eurobucks, especially if you have narrow or flimsy fenders.

I’ll mount up the Axa Blueline 50 this weekend to check the beam out. I also should be able to finally put the Axa Lux 70 on the tandem, so I’ll see how that one fits in the ranking.

I “found” this dynamo lamp guard off a bike share, omg this bike is absurdly ugly and I love it.

But I also have this thingy that came with a shower bottle rack. It is significantly lighter weight. No way to easily secure tho. Black one seems to match the overall aesthetic whereas this one might look better on a classic steel fop.

I’ve been wishing I had a pile of Velo Orange / Honjo style R-clips throughout this build. They’re really handy as dynamo guides with a frame that has an outbreak of warts.

I like this one more. You need one for the front now

I’m loving this dynamo wire thru a VO spring stabilizer combo that I happen to have in the parts bin from a failed build I tried many years ago.

Also eyeing this Spanninga Pixeo Protector and wondering if its lighter weight than the incredibly heavy black one off the Bike Share. Bonus of no extra bolts or holes needed which means less weight wagging on the weak plastic fenders.

Cages for everyone!

My first real bike (lime green Shogun trail breaker with 200gs Shimano push push shifters) had that guard.

positron!!

Update from Peter White on that Pixeo protector & B&M Secula.
Holes: ok
Shape: nope

Can you flip it over?

I wanted to mount a light to the fork crown of the tandem but it’s blocked by the U-brake. So I designed this little booster to take a light and had some water jet cut.

They said it looked weird upside down as well.

The thrilling conclusion:
I drilled a hole through the center of the stay brace to support the heavy protector on the bottom. Had a few M4 bolts & nylock nuts from an earlier project and they were the perfect length. Shoved some decrepit leather washers under the bracket, blacked them out with a sharpie.

It’s a little ridiculous with the chunky AXA Luxx 70 Plus but I want to test it out.
