no but I bought it as jewelry
but more likely to let water pour in during a stream crossing
I wonder how many fuxored cores are going to be too corroded for those skinny wrench flats to work.
I still am really considering getting this over an SV9 though. Just will use lots of antiseize and torque carefully while it’s still new.
For context, i saw wrench flats on my Shimano dyno too and just rounded them off a bit trying to give the core a turn with a headset wrench.
Well that’s your problem right there.
they thought their hubs were so tightly sealed that they sucked in water from outside when you got home from the pressure differential of your warm house
so to fix that they made a big hole in the middle where water can easily get in, but the exit is still through the tight bearings
so drill two big holes on opposite sides of the hub.
Or fuck it just cut away sections of hub shell like those sketchball looking American Classic numbers from ten or so years back.
Or, I don’t know, don’t submerge your German electronic device in water.
Pop a wheelie and BRAAAAAAAAAAAP across the stream.
Is there a good source for shimano dynamos in the US? Euroland sites won’t ship shimano to the US and US sites seem to have thin selection at arbitrary prices
Your local bike shop is great for these
As @Jacobell noted, a LBS with a Shimano account can order them.
I always have a few on hand and order from Shimano weekly.
What’s the dyno hub of choice for a fast bike?
My Shimano works just fine, but it belongs to another bike and I need to buy something new anyway. It’s also buzzy at high speed, which is a lot of my commute.
Basically the fanciest SON you can afford…?
But they’re so $$$!
Are the tiny SPs as prone to failure as the rest?
My Ye Olde™ SP-8 from like 2011ish is still ticking along nicely. I don’t think you will regret buying one.
Or fork out for a new “fancy” Shimano XT?
Oooh that SV-9 matches the black rear I’ve got too.
