Sister has the not huge one for kid schlepping and loves it
Itās perfect for getting you from point a to point b in a very uninspiring fashion. It just doesnāt ride like a bike (at least the 10 total minutes Iāve spent on one). People LOVE them though so im not knocking them. But Iād say they are not a ābike lovers ebikeā
^ about sums it up. I didnāt love it whenever I test rode them. maybe it was being 6ā2" and the 20" wheels, but it didnāt feel like a fun ebike. Very capable, and adaptable with different sized riders (two sliding seatposts), and can handle loads coz 20" quite well.
Sounds like it rides like my wifeās REI e-bike. I took that thing for a spin a couple weeks ago and can understand what yāall mean by ādoesnāt feel like a bikeā. Iām sure it would be possible to dial it in a little more but I donāt think I could ever get the bars in a position that actually feels good to pedal around. Guess I need to keep hoping the E-dummy gets the job done lol
Now Iām starting to wonder what this would actually be. Iām sure the really high-end road/gravel bike are pretty nice, but what about on the low-mid end of the range? I think this is where the conversion kits can shine but you also risk fucking up a bike you already like.
Well most purpose built cargo ebikes are super overbuilt but Xtracycle started as an analog bike company and they handle more like a real bike instead of a āvehicleā
Also the tiny 20" front wheel with suspension.
I did a write up over on a different forum of my experience upgrading my Xtracycle to an e-bike with a relatively new piece of kit (grin all Axle with torque sensor and superharness controller)
a single Shimano MT200 e-bike brake to control the motor cutoff and regenerative braking
Where did you get that from? I didnāt know they existed, at least when I was shopping for that stuff back in 2020. I was originally going to use the same brakes on my Grin conversion with Tripwires sensors, but the Tripwires needed so much travel to trigger they would have needed to be located so far out on the lever they would have interfered with my fingers.
Just curious, why did you decide on a 52V battery and regular wind motor combo vs a fast wind motor and a lower voltage battery?
Also, yay, the frame Iāve been thinking about putting my old Grin kit on is out of stock and not expected until 2025, the discounted battery is also gone, and now I get to stop thinking about that dither for a while.
There are a variety of the MT200 brakesets on Amazon and Ali that come with the brake sensor. Tektro and Magura also make several sets. I canāt find any Shimano literature on the MT200 ebrake vs regular MT200 so I assume itās a special OEM only thing. They seem legit and unmodified but Iām not sure Iād know what a fake looked like. They are so cheap already. This is the exact one I bought: Amazon.com
Grin suggested the standard winding so I rolled with it. More volts is better, right?
I guess thatās what you get when you ask questions (I did not).
to add to the answer to that non question, tektro has a few varieties of hydro brakes with cut offs built in. Iāve installed and maintained about 20 sets of the e740 (4 piston, long lever), and think theyāre the absolute best brakes available for e-bikes that need stopping power.
I looked at those and am now regretting not buying them. Not that the MT200 isnāt plenty powerful (Iāve got some Deore 4 piston in the rear) but the cutoff switch engages annoyingly late in the braking process for regen to feel just right.
If theyāre the style that have the barrel screw thing for the sensor then you can adjust it.
Damn those Tektros sound sick but they aināt cheap! I feel like I am going to want a brake upgrade on my e-bike before too long but might be okay since Iām not planning on going very fast with the baby on the back.
Unfortunately not
Wanna bet?
Yeah thereās way lower hanging fruit than a lock that chews through angle grinder discs
Bought some wires to mess with my bikeās lighting system but ordered the wrong size! Never realized there were 6mm and 9mm variations of the ājuletā plug despite looking identical in shape
