It's Electric! A thread for e-bike things.

what makes you think that it is stolen?

I scoped out the seller and let’s just say that both she and the part of town it’s probably located in are a little rough around the edges to have a $10,000 cargo bike. Probably not a fair judgment, but the lack of info in the listing is also discouraging - the other locals listing R&Ms are practically gushing through their descriptions

definitely an interesting variety of items being sold by this person

The radpower bike with no charger or battery is a bit of a tell

I swapped the rental Quick Haul for a rental GSD and it’s pretty nice. Much better build, more torque, very very smooth, but Eco mode seems almost useless with such a heavy bike.

I’m also weak so /shrug

Eco mode on my e-bike is like just enough assist to overcome the drag in the motor and nothing more

Ok so it’s not just me then.

Nope, not just you. Eco on the Boost was just enough to make me feel like I wasn’t riding an 80+ lb bike and not much more.

Do the have an HSD available?

Can’t really comment since I’ve got a different system with NINE assist levels. I’ve never used more than 3 of 9. Even 1 of 9 is powerful enough unless I’m hauling a load.

Guess that means the custom firmware on my TSDZ2 must be pretty well designed then. The OFF is like pedaling through mud, ECO is like pedaling through slightly looser mud, STD (lol) makes my big cargo bike pedal more like a normal bike, SPORT finally makes it feel like you are getting some help, and TURBO feels like it is pedaling itself.

I’m usually in STD on the bike trail or when I’m not in a hurry, SPORT in traffic, and then TURBO when I’m trying to make time/feel lazy. I think it’s a little under-clocked when I’m riding with other people on e-bikes but I’m hoping that’s good for the durability.

They do. I get one free swap, so I’m stuck with the GSD for now. I’m not interested in paying any more just to try a different model

So many flakes lately when trying to sell bikes. I’m open to reasonable offers but they still just don’t show up.

So I’ve still got the Evasion and I’m wondering if I should commit heresy and convert it. I’ve been resisting conversions for so long because every one I see in the real world is so janky and shitty, but I’ve enjoyed having some assist for the long climbs home after work.

My other option is using up a shitload of store credit I have at Kona dealer and ordering a Dew-E through them, but I’d still want to move some bikes first.

Where’s that seat tube motor and battery Cancellara had on his bike? Something like that would be nice and stealthy.

i think an E-Vasion would be fun as fuck to ride and it would upset 90% of the Crust fanbase. There is no downside.

You make a really compelling point here

It is a really fun bike to ride, when I actually feel like riding it

If the BB and rear end weren’t so screwy I’d think about putting a kit on my 29+ Pugsley. Put some big chunky tires on it and go nuts. I’d just say to a) go small on the battery b) get something with a small display, preferably SW102 c) run a frame bag and no cut-offs to keep the wiring as low-key as possible

I dunno man, the more I think about it the more it seems like a bad idea. Thin tubing and a really flexy fork doesn’t seem like the right kinda bike for a conversion.

oh yeah if they are wiggle bikes I would not electrify one

Yeah something turdly would be a better candidate for a conversion.

I don’t really want to do a conversion, was mostly just thinking out loud about what I currently have my hands on. I doubt I’ll be going out of my way to buy something to convert.

Yeah don’t buy a bike to convert it. Complete e-bikes are too cheap now. Like I keep telling everybody, we bought my wife’s (discounted) complete e-bike for less than I spent on the kit and battery on my Big Dummy.
