It's Electric! A thread for e-bike things.

I actually like the bike and quad. People want tech in their things and the bike delivers in a fairly novel way. I’m really curious about their drive system. It’s interesting that they used a fly by wire system but it’s still mid drive. Why bother with a belt and cog when you can just have a motor in the wheel?

I’m also a firm believer that e-quads are the future of urban logistics and I’m glad that there is a developing market for those products.

The laws don’t say how many pedals you need. They don’t say the pedals need to be used all the time. They don’t say how easily you need to be able to access the pedals. There’s no minimum speed that pedaling needs to be capable of achieving. They don’t specify what type of mechanical linkage needs to be involved.

If it were me and I wanted an e-motorcycle that was still technically an e-bike I’d
build a single tiny fold-out pedal (think motorcycle kick-starter) that is technically capable of making the bike move forward on it’s own a miniscule amount.

whole battery/drive/compute in a single contained unit instead of spaghetti wiring all over the place was the main reason they said in some interviews.

on a more practical note, it means you can fix a flat on the rear without risking fucking up the motor wiring

that can’t be the one item they prioritized serviceability on

hub drive would have been cheaper and with less moving parts though would negatively impact the rear suspension performance. maybe latency would be an issue as well.

speaking of, an issue that I have with this bike is its ‘do it all’ marketing, especially when it calls out trail riding as a designed use. would love to see a geo chart.

have y’all seen this one? looks like a very tech solution but more of a car replacement

car replacement without the support network of a car. its also ugly.

sorry,

“landing gear”? NFC key? radar? some weird custom light that’s internally wired

it’s like it’s designed to rile up anyone who has ever fixed anything in their lives

That thing isn’t designed to be fixed - it’s designed to have parts swapped.

which is why it’s garbage when they go out of business or release a new one or change their minds. Bicycles should be built out of bicycle parts.

Pedal by wire probably means you’re fucked if the battery dies, unlike most ebikes.

e-Shart Q: the gen e1.2 died again. Last time it was just a blown fuse in the BMS but we got a whole new battery under warranty anyway. I don’t think that’s the case now as the battery charges fine but the display won’t power on.

I want to try a new display first and I’m hoping I can just plug in any old Bafang HMI with a CAN connector. Are there specific compatibility issues I should be aware of?
