Just when you thought the police couldn't do any less

Er, I did.

gg on stealing it back. police are generally pretty worthless.

I had my car broken into and it took them 8 hours to call me back so I could file a report. I failed to mention that 8 hours later was 3am and I had a final exam the next day. Who the fuck calls you at 3am. I yelled quite a bit. They originally said please hold. Okay we’ll just call you back in 15 minutes.

There is a good reason that I take necessary steps to protect my own property without needing their involvement. If someone breaks into my home, I’ll only need them to pick up the bodies and file the paperwork…and luckily I’ll have my xbox to entertain me while I wait 8 hours for them to show up, and plenty of clorox to clean the bloodstains out of my wood floors.

ugh.

fight the power

i’m not reading all this silly discussion about whether or not you should or whatever.

stop being such a pussy and steal your bike back. if i found a bike that had been stolen and didn’t have tools or whatever i’d go straight to the fucking hardware store, buy a hacksaw and take the fucker.

99.99% of the time no one will ask if you act like you’re not doing anything wrong…and in this case you aren’t so HTFU.

just some general advice: in the future its probably best if you don’t describe in detail stealing a bike on the internet (even if it is your bike)

“Video taping our crime spree was the best idea we ever had!”

I think hacksaws work fine, as long as you have a fine-tooth blade. I get through them in <10 secs (in the shop, with ideal conditions I guess). Wire cutters also work fine, but usually take me longer. Bolt cutters suck.

Some lady came into the shop a few days ago with a bike she had bought from us. It was all banged up, someone had tagged the white saddle, fender was busted, rack was kind of broken off (sawed?). She told us someone stole it as well as her neighbors bike, so they called the cops who did nothing, but the bike owners got surveillance video from the building across the street and was able to identify the people. So the cops end up making a deal with the thiefs: return the bike and you’ll be free. So they return the bikes and go free.

So, moral of the story, according to the NYPD, if you steal a bike, just give it back and you’ll be fine.

I would agree except they didn’t do shit when it was obviously my bike, so I’m just not worried this time around. If I dinged somebody’s precious car or whatever, I wouldn’t mention it online. But yeah, it’s a good point regardless.

They serve a specific purpose, recovering stolen bikes ain’t it. Doing anything after the fact ain’t really it. Cops are a deterrent.

Glad the OP got his bike back.

someone should delete this thread so as not to provide evidence.

edit: we could all edit our posts to make it look like we said don’t steal ur bike… that would be funnier
