Luxos U Warranty Chat

How did I not know there was an undongled Luxos model?

Is the iqx beam narrower than cyo premium?

This chill?

Also the avy good for like whatever commuting?

Avy is definitely okay for general urban commuting. Beam is narrow (about 25% of the width of the awesome Cyo Premium), but has a decently long throw, probably equivalent to the Cyo Premium. Provides plenty of “be seen” light. It’s very tiny and light. I would put it on the following types of bikes (because every real bike really should have a dynamo):

  1. Beater Commuter/Bar Bikes
  2. Regular Commuter
  3. Any bike that is not likely to be ridden at night regularly, but you still want dynamo lights just in case
  4. Kids bikes
  5. Supbikes

That said, the Eyc is probably a little better at twice the cost if I recall correctly.

you don’t want the Luxos B

it basically doesn’t have a standlight at all since that was designed around the 100mAh cache battery that’s for charging in the U

ideally you’d get a first generation Luxos U and seal over the dongle port, or take a current one apart and desolder the hardwired dongle

standlight on luxos u is amaze

No. the iqx seems like it projects a big sphere of light while the cyo seems to lay a flat sheet on the pavement. I’d say the side-to-side spread is about the same.

Riding the Luxus U and IQ X back to back the Luxos is noticeable dimmer, but more even, wider spread. The IQ is brighter and as two distinct washes of light in front of you. One is close up and one is way up the road. There is a bit of dimmer light in between and all is narrower, but still wide enough to be a whole lane from yellow to white lines if you ride the middle of a two lane road. I agree that neither will help if you are concerned with seeing through corners a lot. Need a helmet light for that.

But seriously, especially if you are ordering from Europe I have no idea why you would get anything less than a Cyo Premium for any bike with a dynohub. It’s like $50 and basically perfect, go sell plasma a couple times or something. I understand why people want to fuck around with the Luxos or the IQ-X, but for the smaller lights I just don’t get it. I saw a bike at the grocery store with an Eyc last night, and it’s small and cute but they still should have got the Cyo.

What is the best method to affix a wire to the inside of a fender? I used electrical tape, with predictable results. Marine tape? Some of that silicon emergency tape? Superglue?

I’ve used foil HVAC tape with good results.

i’ve done it on two different metal fenders. First was a VO fender that I unrolled the edge and stuck wire in then closed the edge with no tapes or adhesives. This took a very long time but works well for the long term.
Second was a Berthoud fender that had a gutter. I stuck the wire in that rolled edge with some RTV adhesive and lightly pinched the rolled edge enough that the wire didn’t want to jump out before the adhesive cured. I haven’t had any problems but I also haven’t looked at it in a long time.

i put the wire in the gutter and ran a bead of silicone around it. i removed the silicone once for ??? idk why and it came off easily and replaced it.

Sweet! I have a roll of that in my junk drawer!

I’ve used packing tape a couple times and it worked surprisingly well.

Clear packing tape works fine for me. cleaning the surface to be adhered is the most important part.

TBH I used Harbor Freight electrical tape, because that was all I had.

[h6]sorry…[/h6]

Is the taped wire for the NFE?
I’m about to run the rear wheel hydro line on my NFE and planning to either shrink tube the dynamo wire or just bundle the two with small zip-ties.

Nah, it’s on my Trek. I just zip tied the wire to the toptube. I am impressed with the Secula though, and am considering getting one for the NFE and going the shrink-wrap route.

Friend and I used a squeeze tube of clear silicon last week. Placed the wire along the fender, squeezed some silicon in the joint and held it for a few seconds–fully dry the next day. Just like someone already posted above me, derp.

Wire shrink wrapped to hydro hose is a great look.
