as fred said upthread:
you don’t want the Luxos B
it basically doesn’t have a standlight at all since that was designed around the 100mAh cache battery that’s for charging in the U
God I just read that too I’m a dickhead
Goddamnit Gunther
I have a luxos b.
It’s fine.
Not great.
Get the iqx.
I’m thinking that paired with the budget disc dyno from the previous page and a decent old rim from the co op would be a good place to start
Get the regular IQX you don’t need no senso crap.
I bought an IQ-X this autumn and put it in place of an 80 lux Lumotec IQ Premium Cyo T Senso Plus.
With the Lumotec there was a three position switch on the back and I could turn the lamp completely ‘OFF’.
With the IQ-X, I’ve noticed a few times that I’m riding in the day and look down and the daytime running light has come on without me changing from ‘OFF’ to ‘SENSO’. I usually notice riding during the day time on a sustained descent when turning it off would be preferable, but once I’m above a certain speed I can’t re-select the ‘OFF’ position. I have to wait until I’m stopped later in the ride to click it ‘OFF’. The switch is a single button which cycles through the positions, so I can’t choose a hard ‘OFF’ either, it always seems to pop back on a little bit later. There is nothing able to bump the button where it’s located, am I somehow doing the IQ-X wrong?
Yeah, you’re trying to turn it off.
That’s what you’re doing wrong.
why is having the unit off during sustained descents preferable? As far as I know, there is never a good reason to switch off a dyno
I don’t get that, either. On super bright days, I will sometimes turn my cheap Shimano off, because it drags a ton. I’ve never been descending though and wished for less light.
On most days, I will turn my [also cheap shimano] off, because it drags a ton. I’m not descending and wishing for less light–I’m descending in the daytime requiring no light at all and wish for less drag. On the Lumotec I could turn the knob and kill the light, on the IQ-X I cannot and wish I could.
TC: I haven’t turned off my IQ-X since I bought it, didn’t even realize there are multiple modes.
Looks like there is only one mode controlled by the user. On or Off:
A push of the headlight’s rear button switches it ON/OFF. When
activated, the headlight is always in SENSO mode. (A constantly running
hub dynamo is required for a functioning automatic operation.)
During daylight, the headlight operates in “day mode”. The driving light
LED in the headlight shines dimmed onto the road. The additional DRL
LEDs shine with full luminance. Maximal visibility for oncoming traffic!
(The indication LED inside the push button shines blue and the lateral
light slots white with full intensity.)
During dusk or darkness, the headlight automatically switches to
“night mode”. The driving light emits the full luminance. The daytime
running LEDs stay dark. Maximum vision, additional visibility for
oncoming traffic! (The indication LED inside the push button shines
dimmed blue and the lateral light slots white.)
The light/dark sensor switches the headlamp from mode “Night” to
“Day” with a predetermined delay of 8 sec. so that a temporary brightness
(e.g. car headlights turned up) will not cause immediate switching.
oh, I just reread your comment, I see what you mean. It’s turning on without pressing the button.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the switch were broken and activating due to vibration or moisture.
Getting really frustrated with my Luxos U mount situation. Always rattling it’s way loose and developing a case of the droopies. Depressed light staring down at the ground makes for angry rider cursing at the sky. At least I can see to the very bottom of the pot holes that appear without warning. Can’t fix it on the go because I need two wrenches to re-tighten the bolts and who was two wrenches with 'em? For awhile I ziptied around the whole light housing and up to my basket, guess I’ll go back to that plus some loctite maybe? Problem is that I still might want the ability to make slight angle adjustments. Always worried about over-tightening too.
You have any photos of the mounting situation so we can assess?
