Ok so when I finish a ride my garmin asks me how much I ate and drank and then spits some numbers at me and tells me my recovery time. What should I done with those numbers if anything. And where can I find them after they pop up for a second on my garmin? It appears to be some sort of aerobic effort number and then there’s something else.
If you’ve averaged more than 4.3 watts per kg you are allowed a beer. Thats all you need to know.
I averaged like 2. But I drank a beer. Hooray?
I think you’ve got the right attitude.
Nobody has ever said that about me before thank you
Your family wont thank you if you become a watt-nerd.
You now, i never managed to figure this out when I used a Garmin. It would also do that pop up like a minute into the start starting whether I was recovered. It only does this with HR. I can’t seem to find it in the app either, even though this watch in wearing has that same feature…
Wait I think I found it on the watch itself under “My stats” > “Recovery advisor”
This is the screen I’m talking about. I have no idea what these numbers mean. The screen is called training effect.
I also found this hr zone screen which is neat.
Whenever my garmin (usually 15min into a ride or so) pops up with the recovery screen and says something like “recovery check: good,” I like to scream back at it “YOU DON’T KNOW ME, GARMIN”
I’m guessing it’s estimating muscle glycogen depletion based on intensity and total estimated calorie expenditure.
Any muscle glycogen depleted during exercise can be preferentially restored by eating directly following exercise.
yeah, that’s the HR thing. only pops up when you have a hr sensor paired.
@turpentine “training effect” isn’t something i’ve seen outside of garmin, but you can surely find out what you need to know via google: Forerunner 935 - About Training Effect
thanks. I didn’t know what TE meant. Looks like my garmin is telling me I am getting stronger and working hard. which is neat.
Did 90min at 250w today instead of planned 30/30s. Realized that next week my team is doing a 400mile week challenge and since I’m one of 2 people on the entire team still working, I need to be rested because I don’t have all day to ride.
Thats solid! What do you weigh?
Rapha was doing the festive 500 back in December, but I wasn’t anywhere near that kind of volume at the time.
A lot of people were doing it in Freedom Units. Metric sounds a lot more doable.
Currently like 93.5kg, working towards ~85kg.
Festive 500 is also 10 days
Yeah, I’m using Strava. I’ll have a look at the compare. I’ve been thinking about fixing an old iPhone to mount on my bars to have a running view of the ride. Just like if I have someone to chase or stay in front of, I thought I’d ride harder if I had some data in front of me.
