240 kms is a not a small amount for a hilly course. Will you be dynamoing or using batteries? You have to be prepared to stop and eat regularly to do the big kms.
Speaking of Reddit. Not sure if this is bait.

That is bait
it’s definitely gonna be tough. i’m going to be dynamoing. I preordered a sinewave beacon 2 a while back, anticipating that it will arrive before the race! i think nutrition will be tricky for sure
Did it again and now it reads similar to the trainer
? Do you mean more similar to the power meter?
Did them both and the spider now matches the trainer, real close
Ok, you quoted a thing that had only to do with the trainer which is why I was confused.
It is more likely the trainer was wrong, not the power meter, because the trainer experiences way more heat sink. If a trainer gets calibrated cold, it will read too high when it warms up.
I have to say that the rotor app is about 98% trash
ok so I am doing the workouts now. i did a kind of sprinty one in zwift that was one of the ineos guys Luke Rowe workout. it said sprint at the end to like 350w and i thought that was too easy so I did them at 600 and was feeling REALLY GOOD about myself and thinking my ftp is too low.
then today I did some kinda SST which I’ve decided stands for super stupid threshold. horrible. i nearly died. i did finish it so I guess my ftp is right on?
this stankes bike I bought has been really nice except for the stock bar tape which is very not TAF. i should replace it but I’m lazy and it seems like a waste
zone based targets can’t account well for sprints because most workouts use a 6 zone system where they have to put a “top” on z6 so it doesn’t have like a 500-1000 watt range. also two people with the same FTP could have wildly different max power) so they often put an artificial cap on z6. i just checked my zones chart and it’s 150% of FTP, which for me is only 306w, but I can put down 800-850 in a sprint.
it’s best to never use erg mode for sprints and don’t worry about the target. if it says to sprint, just sprint. the target is meaningless in terms of what your FTP is.
also people love that bar tape. you will get used to it. it’s extremely durable compared to normal bar tape and not super slippery/slimey when you sweat. most other bar tapes would be a downgrade IMO. indoor use takes on a lot more sweat and wear than you think.
Sup with the bartape hook up
Tell me why I feel like my pm is telling me I’m going too hard outside IRL but inside it’s matched with my trainer?
That is, my pm is pretty much calibrated to the same range as my trainer and when I go outside it says I’m pushing way more watts than it feels like.
Does that make sense?
this, erg mode sucks for sprint efforts
This is typical. Lots of speculations as to why with no firm answers. You know, you’re used to it more. If it’s really dramatic, you might benefit from inside and outside training zones.
Most people put out less watts inside due to it being hot and mysterious other factors.
Its also likely your trainer has less inertia than outside (climbing steep stuff being an exception). IMO it takes lots of trainer time to be able to put out the same watts at low inertia. Its like climbing all the time and can make it harder to keep the power going through the pedals.
Historically i put out the most watts on our spin bike. The heavy weighted flywheel and fixed gear basically felt like riding in the track with disc wheels. Constant momentum even with the resistance turned up. I could sit at 100-110 rpm all day.
I feel like I could do this on the trainer but I have slow reps IRL, like 60-70
In fact!
How should I train for this?
Try to stay at a higher rpm during your intervals?
I mean it really depends. There’s a case for targeting slow and high cadence. Each person has their own optimal range for efficiency.
I am more efficient at high rpm, but i have gotten much slower at pedaling from mtbing where it doesn’t make any sense to do high rpm so I’m sure my body has adapted.
i got a stages. now i see why you people have these things. here i was thinking i was “going steady hard” during an interval but realizing that i alternate between like 185 and 325 watts and my poor stupid brain can barely tell the difference. going to take some practice to be able to make it steadier.
This is encouraging to hear. Im not alone in my power being all over the place and not being able to tell! In particular, putting out any semblance of power on a downhillIs is hard to get used to.
Also eastern rolling terrain seems a lot harder to maintain constant power than out west where you can find a consistent grade that goes for miles.
One think I’ve been thinking about is a screen on the bike that I pay attention to. I’ve been tracking it with my watch but I feel like sometimes I might go too hard.
