Mountain cables in a road lever?

In my frenzy to order the last bit of stuff for a new build I must had neglected to notice the brake cables I ordered had mountain bike ends on them.

After looking at the lever (Tektro RL520/brake only levers for cantis) it seems like the cable end should fit fine. Is there any danger of it not being fully seated like a road cable end would be? I assume as long as there is adequate tension in the brakes there shouldn’t be a problem.

Lever with mountain cable inserted:

My bike shop, for some reason, gave me a mountain cable instead of road. It works fine.

I do this too on one of my bikes. nothing has exploded… yet

ive done this. Im not dead so i guess its ok.

Once upon a time I ordered a set of road cables.

They sent mountain cables.

I still have them and am too afraid to use them.

nothing bad will happen but it might be kind of noisy, depending on how your brakes are set up.

As long as you can make sure it stays seated like that and doesn’t twist to the side. Otherwise the actuation will feel spongy.

This is crap.
Up until about three months ago, all the cables I got had both ends.
Now they only have one so you have to make real sure its the right one. what a pitd!

^^Yeah… I was surprised when I got to the other end of the cable and there wasn’t a road end on it, wtf?

I didn’t think there would be an issue… thanks.

get a file. the ends are really soft pot-metal and you can reshape them pretty easily.

i get mah cables from walmart. they come with both ends.

The bigger concern is people using shifter cables with cross levers. Those cables are skinnier.

Stainless cables are the greatest cables.

Or a bench grinder.

yeah the cables at my lbs have both ends.
then again i haven’t bought a brake cable in a long time.

don’t worry about what kind of fucking end the cable has. the bike can stop on pure, hardcore adrenaline.
