god damn it that fucking redline. if you raced cross from like 2004-2007 you would not be impressed by those. COMPLETELY agreed that the only appropriate build is 9speed shimano and some random cobbled together chain tensioner because you KNOW you’re going to drop your chain.
at that time in my life i was racing an empella with the world’s rarest headset. it was a 1" threadless integrated headset. only campy made one so of course it was record. the headset cost half as much as i paid for the frame. that bike pretty much sucked and i’m glad technology has improved.
also the fact that there are flat pedals on that redline completely ruins it for me. and that’s before you get to the geneveellele.

My last housemate bought those stupid fucking geneveeellel shifters when he was in Japan and I wasn’t around to talk him out of it. I kept my mouth (mostly) shut about it, but it still only took him a couple weeks to realize how fucking stupid they really are. Worse still, he replaced his Shimano bar-ends with them.
When I asked him why he bought them he said something about them being like brifters, but friction, coz you can’t have indexed shifting on a tour(?).
When they were new, someone here wrote a beautiful analogy about how if you just improve every aspect of them slowly you wind up with modern brake-shifters or whatever we’re calling them now.
Either way, the correct response to them is a visceral hatred.
