My frame got KIA

So I rode to the bar to work on my beer club list (7/100 left) and everything seemed fine. Then as I’m headed out up the stairs from the down bar I notice a crack in my welding for the track ends. I checked it out and it was only on the outside of stay not the inside, and the drop out “plugged in” a decent amount into the stays. So I decided to ride it home, then some jackass cuts me off and I tried to skid (bad idea BTW with a cracked frame) and I heard a pop and my chain threw. So I hit the brake which I wisely decided to put on a few months ago. Got the chain back on and rode home ultra careful with no other problems. However, since I’m getting a chunk of cash from a settlement I think I’ll just retire the frame and buy either a new complete bike or a frame and swap the parts (looking for track or SS specific frame). Budget is around 1G for everything. Also I’d like something that’ll fit me since I run a 63cm top tube and a 120mm stem. I know… I have freakishly long arms. I needs help.

photos…

the rusty color is actually frame saver I never cleaned off

Damn! You put a lot of work into that frame too. I suppose it will look nice hanging on the wall.

That’s totally fixable if you felt up to getting it done.

get the chainstay replaced and keep it on the road…

The time & money for the repair isn’t worth it to me right now. I’ll fix it eventually but for now I’d like to get a new frame.

edit: Also this is my way of reasoning getting a new bling frame.

shitty. what frame is that, the welds look like crap.

bummer. sometimes i worry about something like this happening to my rustbucket frame, but oh well. nothing like an excuse for a nice upgrade with the added bonus of a sweet wallpiece.

Frame was an old bridgestone 400 i got fo cheap. I welded on the trackends myself which was why they cracked. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be since the drop out was so thick and the tubing was thin, but the weld didn’t fail where I thought it would have if it was going to fail. I modified the dropouts to plug a good 1/2" into the tubing which is probably why they bike was actually rideable despite the failure. Anyways…time for new frame.

Did it have verticals or something?
I would have had to really want that frame to do something like that.

I DO WHAT I WANT!

Clearly.

bikeisland kilo frameset 200 bucks cant beat that really?

That sucks.

Better killed in action in the name of tarck than stolen though, amirite?

yeah skidding is in the name of tarkc. no member left behind!! :bear:

Well that kind of answers the question I have had rolling around in my empty skull.

“Wonder how it would hold up if I were to weld some BMX track ends onto my old mountain bike?”

yeah just buy a ENO hub and build a new rear wheel. Would not do again. However, the welding and build up of the frame was fun.

HAHAHAHAHHA

Urrite indeed, and you made me think of this guy

singing “In the naaaaaaame of taaaaaaaarck” and it made me smile.

He’s too tall for the sizes they offer.
