So I rode to the bar to work on my beer club list (7/100 left) and everything seemed fine. Then as I’m headed out up the stairs from the down bar I notice a crack in my welding for the track ends. I checked it out and it was only on the outside of stay not the inside, and the drop out “plugged in” a decent amount into the stays. So I decided to ride it home, then some jackass cuts me off and I tried to skid (bad idea BTW with a cracked frame) and I heard a pop and my chain threw. So I hit the brake which I wisely decided to put on a few months ago. Got the chain back on and rode home ultra careful with no other problems. However, since I’m getting a chunk of cash from a settlement I think I’ll just retire the frame and buy either a new complete bike or a frame and swap the parts (looking for track or SS specific frame). Budget is around 1G for everything. Also I’d like something that’ll fit me since I run a 63cm top tube and a 120mm stem. I know… I have freakishly long arms. I needs help.
bummer. sometimes i worry about something like this happening to my rustbucket frame, but oh well. nothing like an excuse for a nice upgrade with the added bonus of a sweet wallpiece.
Frame was an old bridgestone 400 i got fo cheap. I welded on the trackends myself which was why they cracked. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be since the drop out was so thick and the tubing was thin, but the weld didn’t fail where I thought it would have if it was going to fail. I modified the dropouts to plug a good 1/2" into the tubing which is probably why they bike was actually rideable despite the failure. Anyways…time for new frame.
