my @#$!@# frames are all too small. Stupid long legs. Any chance at an off the shelf frame working for me?

so…I’m currently riding a 56cm specialized tarmac with like a serious FOOT of seatpost exposed and the stem all the way up. The stem could stand to be shorter, but it works for now.

If I was to jump up a few sizes, the damn top tube would be way too long for me.

Right now I’m sooo close to just ordering myself a custom STRONG or something.

the tarmac was fit by a specialist to me and it’s great. I’ll keep it because even though it looks goofy, so do I. I have ostrich legs.

My track frame is what’s really pissing me off. I have a 53 cm soma rush. I was told when I first was fit (not by a specialist) that I should ride a 54, so the 53cm soma frame would be perfect. What I foudn was that even with my brooks saddle (a tall saddle) I have a shitton of exposed seatpost and the stem is all the way up. I just need a longer seat tube and a really short top tube.

i was also told that a long headtube would work for me.

im always complaining about frames. rawr

what is your inseam?

pics?
you’re not alone.

This thread is useless without a side-view photograph or video of you on the bike.

this bike was fit to me correctly. it fits GREAT. it’s very flexy and only good for climbing or touring. I love it though. most comfy bike I own.

only pic i could find of my tarmac on top of my old car

aye, foudn a pic of my on the bike

for the legs

for the gears

for the comfyness

to be honest I don’t know shit about road frames. :frowning:

Your old car was/is beautiful. I love GCs. STi conversion?

yeah, you might wanna mention your height and inseam.

for example
i am 5’11
i got a 34 inch inseam.

i got hella seatpost showin’ on my bike. it’s a “size 53”

53cm (c-c) is 56cm(c-t) with TT of 548mm and standover of 31.5 inches

you should do what me and andrewf, divide your inseam by your height and post it as a percentage for comparison purposes…

i’m 47.8% legs.

6’2" with a 33" inseam. 44.6% legs. I’m proportionally fucked. My legs are crazy short.

I’m in the same boat.
Long legs + short torso = hard as hell to find frames that fit.
I just ebayed a 10 year old custom frame with a 56 ST and a 54 TT.
We’ll see how that works out.

My Olmo is a 53x54 and fits perfect in the TT but like you I’m running an assload of post.

i’m 5’10" with a 32" inseam 45%
i pedal toes down and that pushes my seat height up about 2-3 cm over where most fit calculators put me.
if i pedaled with my foot in a more horizontal position off the pegs would have that “perfect look”.

Ya’ll don’t know what you’re talking about. According to several fit systems (bodyscanning and the fit kit), my ideal frame, with a 110mm stem, is ~62x56. Yeah. They don’t make those anymore. Luckily I’ve found some older frames that have similar dimensions that fit me well.

compact frame

So you won that thing, huh? I just won a 1987 Cannondale frame, so stoked!

That is a pretty typical amount of post showing for a tarmac. Slopping frame and whatnot. I feel yer pain, being built like a T-rex myself.

panasonic POS semi custom track frames FPC 11 actually come with long seat tubes and short top tubes, ie. 59cm st and 56cm tt. FPC11 I feel your pain, this looks like a decent solution for us with long legs and short torsos. BTW, your tarmac looks fine.

That’s how its supposed to look.

when i first started riding i wanted a real short top tube. now i’m riding a track bike that is 57.5cm square with 11cm stem, and my new frame is going to be 58cmx57.5.

to get your general frame size multiply your inseam (taken with no shoes on) by .67
if i do that it says i need 58.5cm frame…pretty damn close to what i like which is 57.5 or 58cm ctc on the seat tube.

most people don’t need a custom frame.
