need a new wool winter cycling cap (w/ earflaps) - recommendations?

i was concerned about warmth retention with the rapha cap, seeing that it’s only 26% wool. Is this an issue, mander?

Do it, it’s a good hat.

[quote=fezdango]the pace caps do look promising. 18.8 micron merino.

Looks well made, but how hard is it to make an all-black cap?

My only major complaint on the Rapha is the bill. No matter how much I try to shape it it flattens out again. Also, the ear flaps are a little puny. I have still been using my MEC fleece skullcap for sub-freezing weather.

Nope, it traps enough air to have that woolly slightly itchy/ “warm as fuck” feeling in temperatures down to 0 (as cold as I’ve ridden in). I think the synthetic composition might make it better for anti-shrinkage too.

This, I have a wool jeep cap (think Radar) that I got for $4 when the temp really drops.

Again, It’s reversible. So, the reversed side is all black. Though, if you flip up the sides/back some cream color does show.

Had this thing for a few days now. I love it. Blocks the wind very nicely and it covers all of my ear (by that I mean, I have my ears guaged out to 1/2 inch and while that isn’t a lot having a hat that will cover my ear completely isn’t as easy as one might assume.)

Also, 666, Bulky hats while warm do not fit well under a helmet.

also comes in sage/black. i know, still not all black, but its another option. plus as RJ mentioned, reversible.

The sage IRL is more green than that.

My Ibex is all black and worked well on the ride today, I could use a little windproofing up front but ear lobe coverage was good.

would that be a forrest/hunter green or olive drab type green? hoping for the latter…

IIRCC, the latter.

raphas are back on the bay. debating on whether i should get that or the pace?

Hopefully he gets on in time, maybe he wants it. Dis

Why would he want a women’s jacket?

Still lovin that hat.

I got a wool walz cap. I give it an A++ for heat retention.

got mah rapha. fucking rocks; keeps head warm, ear flaps have good coverage. also says “rapha” on it.

I think I’m getting the Rapha knit cap for xmas. It’s been in the 40’s here at night recently which is below zero by San Diego standards. Plus it’ll be wonderful come track season, it gets colder than a witch tit between races.

I have nothing but great things to say about my Sugoi - it’s held up perfectly. One of my better recent purchased. As for needing to be a Cannondale dealer, not at all. I don’t know exactly what it takes to sell Sugoi, but in no universe is my shop a Cannondale dealer (everyone hates C’dale and mocks me for riding one), but we sell boatloads of Sugoi.

If you work at a shop and have a 3point5 account, I recommend taking the Pearl Izumi tests. They have some pretty nice winter stuff, but I don’t think they ever make a cycling cap.
