Or go full tarck and get a 6bolt dick to fix cog and fuck the rear brake
I have a couple of NOS Shimano U-brakes if you want to keep it OG.
I have a wheels worth of 720 that you can have for postage if you need it gunther
Not sure of your setup, but wouldn’t it be easier to use a triathlon butt rocket bottle holder, or a handle-bar mounted one? Or for that matter jsut get a Jandd frame bag and carry extra water there.
Is there a reason (other than cost) that you don’t convert it to 650b?
I accidentally-ed a rsogn replacement fork someone had made custom. 9/8" and son sl connectors. Ridiculous but it was only $150. What is a good frame to match? For girlfriend (5’4"), 650bx42 or thereabouts. Soma ES? There must be other options.
Shart Mountain road?
Some cyclocross frames will work, going from their ~400mm a-c to ~380 will steepen them about a degree, nice since you’re trying to get 72.5-73
big point of contention is the rear brake, for shortish reach road frames you could use a 73mm dual pivot with 650b
otherwise you’re adding new brake posts, I’ve got a brazeon Paul centerpull lying around that I’d hoarded for this kind of mullet setup but never got around to using

Hmm…would Mafac Raids have the proper reach around in the rear? I have several.
Thanks for the Shart Mountain reminder
Yeah, Raids got oodles of reach (80mm).
What is my best bet for 2x11 drop bar hydro shakes these days? Any rumors of new models being released this summer?
PROBABLY dura ace 9100 in the fall?
Also are the SRAM Red HRD shakes compatible with mountain clutch danglers?
Are these expected to be electronic shifting?
I think they are, or at least some of them. One of the primary reasons to go srma.
For danglers, would the GX series be the next iteration of the X9 Type 2?
Yes, you can use their 10s mountain danglers. GX or the discontinued X9, X7 type II
Rival 1/Force 1 dangler also have a clutch, but I think SRAM says they don’t work with a pusher (but I can’t understand why)
I am using Red shake x rival1 collabo for 1 x 11-42. Shifting is good. Chains fall off backpedaling on the 42t.
Not really that impressed with the brakes, but certainly better than cable disc. Something rattle (the pads?) in the caliper when I feather the brake and I haven’t figured that out yet.
R785/685?
R785/685?[/quote]
yeah, I’ve got 2000km on mine and they haven’t missed a beat.
Wasn’t there talk of some failures early on?
Absolute best will be whatever Shimano Dura Ace thing comes out in July. The best presently available and not unaffordable option is Shimano RS685, which I don’t think will see an update any time soon, since it’s already Ultegra level 11-speed. Some front-loading riders eschew these, because the throw is the longest of any Shimano lever, and can run into your bag. Foon may stop in to pitch for the SRAM shakes, but you probably know my feelings about SRAM brakes.
Maybe some cowbell bars to tilt the levers a bit, but still keep a flat ramp?
But others have run them with bags and learned to not bitch about it because shit still works.
Andrew, you’re certainly welcome to ride my bike around if you want to spend some time with the Shimano group.
1,400 miles on my RS685’s:
- Hoods are giant and there are many comfortable hand positions. I don’t have any issues bumping into my size L Ozette w/ 42cm (c to c) bars.
- Brakes are great. Super easy to lock up the rear, even with a 140mm rotor.
- Front shifting issue was resolved*. The front shifting is now effortless in both directions.
- Rear shifting is normal. I think I have chainline issues because when I’m in the smaller 3-4 cogs, the chain will occasionally rub on the next large cog along the top edge.
- Nerd rings (46-30) with an 11-32 cassette is giving me all of it.
*It wasn’t Shimano or White’s fault, but rather that the rings were indeed assembled incorrectly by the shop I bought the crankset from. Didn’t know I had to double check the work done by bike shops.
