nerdy and dull bike plans/dithering thrad 2016

Ugh more dithering
I found some old frames I could mod for not that much money
And I found a FB with decent frames for foptastic builds
But how am I gonna get that 18# build?
Maybe I should say fuck camping on the single speed and do it on this

With a smaller chainring and some knobby tires I think it could be alright.
Thoughts?
Yes.

Pricepoint has M520 pedals for dirt ass cheap at $25.

Current dithering:

Waterford - Ride it at the track once it opens in the spring. If I enjoy, build up a set of 28h All City Sheriff SLs to Archetypes. 18t on one side for riding on the road, and a 15/16t on the other for tarckin’. Gotta get a 49t chainring for the skid patches brah.

Rex - Stays the same. Gotta take it to a shop and have them do a full-service on it. Probably needs recabled and maybe new tires. Still gotta wear out these ancient 9s components…which doesn’t seem likely any time soon.

Nordavinden - Either build or sell. I dunno. I don’t really want to own a Rawland to be honest.

Ros 9 - Ride it a lot. Need to figure out dropper situation. I think I want a internally routed one.

Cross Check - Want to replace this with a Wolverine, but I don’t really want to buy the necessary brakes or wheels to make it happen. Probably get a Double Cross frame and use the crabon Ritchey fork I have on that, and get a 40c WTB Nano for the rear.

BMX - Riding the United trails F/F until Ray’s season ends in April, then I’ll swap out the WTP/Shadow fork for outside stuff once the weather changes.

Gotta sell a bunch of frames and parts that I have.

I really want a beefy flat bar fixed/SS bike with big tires to fuck around on and jump shit with/try to break, but I can’t justify that.

Gonna sell:
Univega with yellow deep vs and 6603 group.
Soma doublecrap frameset
davidson frameset
xcheck frameset
9-speed 6503 group
8 speed 7704 group
assorted bits and bobs and dealymajiggers

Gonna buy:
A Rivendell (!!!) Clementine Frameset if there are any the right size for supweif beause it’s exactly what she wants AND needs for now.

Building: Still building the Norda. Have headset pressed, BB installed, brakes installed, and maybe today I can get the drivetrain setup.

I don’t think I’m quite ready to go down the clipless road but my god that site is amazing

Do it.

My goal is to finally downsize my bike stuff. Hopefully sell about a dozen bikes and put the money towards a very nice NFE style machine.

Current dither is to join Ergott in the 650b Endpoint game if I can decide on a drivetrain and brakes.

you should try to poach one of the completes off a husband who bought one inappropriately, though you’ll probably have to subscribe to some socks-and-sandals mailing lists to get the jump on one

if you end up getting a frameset, I’ve got a matching BOSCO Bar lying around (non bullmoose)

I have 350 unread messages in my inbox from various mailing lists. What’s another 20 or 30?

Ha! I have 46330 unread messages. You just have to filter the socks and sandal output into its own box and delete whenever you find yourself giving a shit.

Taking sup bike shopping today with about a 1 bong budget. :bear:

Finish the Paconi kid carrier build once I get the vinyl cut for the decals.
Figure out what fenders will fit / work on it. Will probably get VO hammered.
Work out a solution for the basket because the VO rando rack doesn’t work with my eyelets.
Buy Yepp mini and put kid on it (in 5-6 months).

Had this sitting at my parents house for the past 3 or 4 years and I’m gonna build it up again. Thinking single speed (mostly because I already have the ss wheel) fendered slick tired drop bar around towner. Needs a new fork but I should be able to part bin a lot of it. Should I do mini vs cuz drop levers? What are some nice ones?

If you are set on saving that particular frame/fork, you should do either:
1: Dick brake fork with “road” dick caliper
2: U-brake fork to match the rear u-brake, which will both work with drop bar levers fine.

Fancy mini Vs would be overkill on 26" fuckaround bike. Could even limit tire clearance.

Ah yes the u brake. Totally forgot that’s how the frames set up. Hopefully I can track down a proper fork.

those GTs all came with cantilever front brakes

if flat bar you can use Speed Dial levers or similar and have U rear / full V front

if drop bar just use a decent modern canti in the front, like a Tektro CR710

And just find a decent U for the rear? That sounds easier than tracking down a unicorn 26er fork

BMX brakes, man. Fly Manual is nice. Odyssey Springfield if you hate setting up brakes.
