New & Interesting Bike Campenaerts

Someone leaked the new AXS compenaerts:

Official release is tomorrow.

are those AI-generated human avatars?

Seems about right, I just bought a bike with (now old) Force AXS. :upside_down_face:

looks like Red with blacked out finishes, guess we’ll need to wait for the next-gen Red AXS to see new stuff

This is old news. The cheapo Microspline hubs have been cartridge-bearing from day 1. And yes, the ones we have seen are not exactly durable. I want to say the last time we dealt with one it was a 6903 bearing in there, but I can’t recall.

Looks like the top-tier one get’s double-row bearings to help with longevity but in true Shimano fashion they are still using crappy cup/cone in the cheap hubs. I’m looking forward to play, noise, and harshness from QC300 and QC400 freehubs, but at least the TC stuff should not crap out after a year of actual use.

Anodized aluminum in the shape of a stubby snap bracelet that you fit over the center barrel. Available with etched designs too of course.

That’s eating away at the use-case for Archer, a little bit, if you buy into it.

Once it all settles in this could be the best thing Shimano has done in a long time and is taking an approach that ditherers should love.

Same chain and cassette spacing across all groups is incredible.

So do you think it will roll out with an 11 speed shifter that needs to be locked out for a 9 speed application, or will they do separate shifters? EDIT: They could do aftermarket shifter drums a bit like Ratio…

They have different shifters

also same dangler cable ratio and shifter pull per cog?

I’m curious what the ratio will be, and whether it’s in one of the gaps to unlock any new combinations like shimergo or srampy

Some rough numbers on Reddit put it very close (if not the same) as Dynasys. I’m not sure I want to drop $50 on a 5130 dangler to find out. But I wouldn’t be shocked if it’s 10 speed pull and spacing and they just rivet on extra cogs. All the ā€œit’s not compatibleā€ might just be mostly about using the 11 speed cassette with regular 11 speed parts.

at that point i find it hard not to dither directly to 11s. i would be interested in quality 9s for an ebike but otherwise if it requires a new ecosystem i’m just gonna do 11s again

the Linkglide chain/cassette does seem like there’s gonna be some killer applications

just unclear how to integrate it into a stable of nerd bikes

It’s gonna get integrated on my mid drive e-bike once it’s available. And my Kona Dew.

I didn’t see -is this all on ye olde HG freehub body, or is it microspline?
