embargo is over lol
Good bike if you need to cross the Sahara Desert or find the North Pole, I guess
Probably fun to rent for a few hours at a vacation destination with the right terrain.
But really I have some issues with how they list the gearbox in their specs.
I’m going to go out on a limb and say that I like it and think it’s cool but also what sort of market research led them to believe this was worth putting into production? Having done one snow bike race in Iowa I will say there are probably 2 dozen guys licking their chops right now
And even if I think it’s cool in a Gravedigger kind of way, it just makes it all the more ridiculous that Surly will make an unsellable Moonlander before they make a Disc Trucker without fucked up dropouts
not a snobikeguy, but isnt 6 inches a little big for racin?
Hell if I know but I would presume yes
ATMO more float is great and what I always want. That said I’d be more in favor of them inventing 27.5x5" (current biggest I think is 27.5x4.5). I like the better approach angle of a larger diameter, and I’d also rather increase the contact patch by making it longer rather than wider. Less rolling resistance through snow for sure.
Longer chainstays make sense, personally I definitely will sink the rear tire well before the front and have often wanted a more balanced weight distribution. Not really worried about climbing traction.
Mike Curiak is gonna sell dozens of those tires. Half of them for his own and wifebeiks.
Bet on a few YouTubers doing Iceland and polar trips this winter too.
the chatter was that tire manufacturers couldn’t go much bigger in outside diameter (though seeing 750D WTBs make me not 100% sure) so getting more width by make the rim smaller seems like the obvious workaround.
Oh, yeah I bet there are some legacy industrial tire molding machines or whatever that could be the limiting factor.
I’ll ride my 4” as a trail bike for fun. The only downside side is Q. That doesn’t look fun to peddle
so this thing is configurable for a variety of drivetrains and pull ratios, and rebuildable… it’s either vaporware or the company will make 50 as a kickstarter and then go under, right?
Probably won’t be on the trail but I can’t wait to put the fat wheels back on my Pugsley for dad rides
I’m big enough that 4” schwalbs kinda react like normal tires for the little guys. I like working the momentum
It started as making replacement parts for sram, so I just assumed it was sram only, but Ingrid showed how you can just poke out a different sized cable guide to fit anything.
EDIT. Yip thats what they are doing.
It’s definitely designed to solve several issues I have with riding a fatbike on the snow, which is cool to see them go for actual soft-surface optimization and leave the trail riders or those who want to have two wheelsets for swapping to pick something else.
LoL Tomson is making a track frame set about seventeen years late.
That copy has got me rofling.
