Only with my first design….

Thinking my next move with be to go full Tarahumara Indian with some dead mezcals but that would be more for fun and less for weight.

Tarck is about making shoes

I made these last Winter for common water crossings, too deep to ride when it was cold enough wet cycling shoes would be a problem. Actually hand-stitched 1 simple barzo-moccasin but it ended up being too heavy would have been 400g+ for a pair. These are 180g.

I had thought about doing cutouts for the lugs but turns out after the first step it doesn’t matter, the sock loads up with sand/grit and grips fine. Everyone who has seen them IRL is disgusted by the concept but I like my soccasins and I’m going to use them this Winter too.

Hell yeah !

That’s basically a huarache sandal, but with a MTB tire instead of a car tire.

i’m confused. how does the sock attach

Is this guy copying your idea @jimmythefly ?

Foot goes on tire, sock goes over foot/tire

you could make actual huaraches using paracord looped/woven thru the casing of the tire, which would dry faster and be less disgusting to remove and carry

A good bike tire one here. Definitely going to try one of these. Upcycled Minimalist Running Huaraches or Lifestyle Shoes by Tired Feet : 6 Steps - Instructables

A downside was obtaining the magical damping grease. I contacted the manufacturer and they quoted me ~250 bucks for a tube. Thankfully, you can now buy replacement damping cartridges for 30 bucks. Cane Creek Viscoset Damping Cartridges

On SJS Cycles, where I bought the Viscoset, the customer service replies led me to a 100g tube of the same goop for that much, but also a link to this stuff which is supposedly equal: Tribosyn 320 Yellow - Newgate Simms

Supposedly it doesn’t wear out - what was your experience? How long did it last?

The concern I have with mine is the headset ā€œtop capā€ is slightly offset, it hangs off 1 side slightly more than the other.

I’m very happy with the whole bike though

some good videos on that page

got me pondering what rattly household items could be improved with some quality damping grease

Do you have both top and bottom Visco cups? Looks like Cane Creek only makes lowers for tapered 1.5ā€ forks and I’ve got a straight 1.25ā€ fork. Trying to see if just swapping in a top Visco-cup would help shimmy on my bike.

I’ve tried a bunch of damping greases in my VS and the only thing I found that makes the damping last is to preload the plate stack by putting an o-ring between the stack and the top cap.

@tantar58 This is on my straight steerer Vaya, top cups only.

I haven’t ridden it with a load to really test it yet, but no handed riding went from 'needing constant attention’ to flat-out easy. Gonna throw the Tubus Duo and low-rider panniers on and do some shopping this week I think.

@drwelby good tip, gonna take this info to my brain trust LBS for some tweaking.
