dont use cinelli? they have new 1a models that are 26.0. it’s not difficult to use calipers.

^ 100g is like 1/4lb, a not insignificant amount for just a stem. I’ve ridden with all of the above mentioned stems in 120-130mm lengths and there are noticeable differences in the amount of flex. The new 1A might be OK but the older 1R was scary flexy and the older 1A’s I’ve used were just uglier equivalents to other quills (mainly 3t which I consider to have the nicest quills overall). It makes no sense to spend more on a heavier or uglier stem (cinelli, nitto tech) when there are zillions of nice used ITM’s and 3TTT’s floating around. And yes welded stems look like shit and the only reason anyone uses them is if they need hella rise since normal quill stems are made for like, normal fits. Nitto pearl is a good choice but like I said, feels a little heavier than other options.

^ threadless is definitely noticeably more solid feeling, and IME with a light quill adapter such as a deda spada, the weight of the adapter and threadless stem is usually less than the quill stem. But as far as quill stems, I’d say stiffness ranges from ‘I’m gonna die’ to ‘acceptable’, I wouldn’t say they’re all flexy as shit, like I mentioned the ITM professional 130mm I have in service now is actually pretty solid feeling as are most/all nitto and most 3TTT racing stems generally speaking. The only real issue in my opinion when choosing between the two for an older steel frame, besides perceived aesthetics which are subjective, is that a threadless adapted setup can’t go nearly as low as a quill stem can, so the stem choice also comes down to how much drop you need and the size of the frame.

Old Salsa is the stiffest quill stem in my experience. Does not look right on every road bike. Tig stems can look like ass, but the people who care about that shit are the same fools who consider it a crime against nature to put Shimano on an Italian frame.
But yeah there are plenty of decent options out there from non-usual suspects.
Most of the flex/slop is in the quill.

Hmm, wondering why y’all are hating on the Technomic. Figured out it’s the super-tall Nitto stem with the steel wedge. Think I put one of those on Pookie’s bike. The Technomic Deluxe is the nicer one. Guess it’s more or less just a slightly taller Pearl.
Also: Quill stem chat is annoying. Anyone want to buy a Dura-Ace quill stem?

If the frame is designed for a quill put a quill on it.
