Well, that’s a nice bike and all. But I think the point of this thread is that you’re supposed to post a Visp with Aerospokes or Schwinn Varsity conversion with suicide hub or something so we can all feel superior.
So, unfortunately, I’m going to have to give you a “fail” and ask you to try again. That goes for Stronglight, too.
Have fun. SMB!
I’ll take that as a complement, but solve for x such that he’s blasdelf 0.5 — given that he’s me at 12 and I’m 24 now.
I mean, when I was 12 I lusted after the Spinergy Rev-X and thought bullhorns / chopped risers were great. Then I hit puberty, could spend time in the drops, and actually ride a bike for reals.
Let’s Compare:
[] His brickhouse tires weigh 750g each, my supple open-tubular tires weighed 295g each
[] His rack is completely untriangulated, wiggles side to side and forward to back, and still weighs 2-3x as much. Mine is laterally stiff and vertically compliant, and the mid-fork attachment lets the fork blades still flex as they were designed to.
[] He has entirely the wrong geometry for a front load, just the weight of his rack is enough to make his bike want to dive and tire his arms.
[] His frame is way too stiff with 9/6/9 OS tubes, mine planes pretty nicely with an 8/5/8 OS TT and a 9/6/9 non-OS DT

The size of the tires change the geo a bit so you’re overlooking that point, but you’re forgetting the strength issue (I’d rather have heavy durable tires when carrying vs supple lighter tires that may be easier to puncture. It sucks changing a flat if your carrying things). Possibly, the rack could be a little more cut out to carry heavier stuff (but that point is moot if the geo is wrong for it as in the case of the Mercier, but the Big Apple tires really made up for how well it handled though.)
I’ve yet to do a heavy load on the Crosscheck to comment on how it handle with the rack, but with the bars, I may have a control advantage over you since the bars are wider (again that point could be moot those since the geo isn’t designed for it purposely). Also the stiffness is slightly of negated due to the bigger (40mm) tires. To imply I don’t ride seriously is a fallacy, but your bike is very nice!
