paging solbros

The other option would be to cannibalize some other modern bike for the build kit and slap that shit on a custom frame.

Curtlo makes a nice lookin’ fillet brazed frame for pretty cheap.

you just recommended TO SOLBROTHERS to buy a FRAME ONLY for over $800.

nice bikes: they cost money

Sol, you need to sell your half-bikes and buy this double-assed bike.

seriously. you could buy a perfectly good, running crx for that much

…or he could keep throwing money at bikes that don’t fit.

more shit

vs

nice shit

who wins

Sol, needs to find a good deal on a bike that fits. I gather he’s not going to be able to afford a nice custom frame for $800 or a decent complete for over a grand. However, I bet if we can collectively find him a good deal on a frame that fits that’s a few hundred, we can convince him to assemble some decent components that will in the end yield a decent bike. This is tarck, it’s pretty much our mission to figure out how to get members to spend money on decent bikes. Obviously the “HTFU, bikes cost real money” approach isn’t working. We need to be a bit more sneaky about this.

matt do you actually want/care/like any of this?

also, do you want STI levers or something with barcon or downtube shifters?

i’d lean towards the barcon route, cuz cheap yet still practical.

TBH i’d jump on the lotus. have viking ship the frame + some extras over (no need for wheels really). gather up some 9spd parts. get some ultegra/open pros from bicyclewheelwarehouse.

BOOM.

if that’s actually big enough, kinda nice.

HY

Boy has zero experience riding real bikes. He wouldn’t really know, but he does like to ride bikes.

only 61ish TT, but god damn beautiful

I’m guessing Matt couldn’t ride much more than a 61tt

oh, yeah? all legs?

toast, i really care about this stuff. but at this point in time, i cannot drop $1k on a frameset or even a complete. id love to, but i just cant. priorities. if i can put $50 in my old piece of fucking shit centurion and it makes it rideable and i like it, ill do that. but i just dont have the means (and am NOT going to put a bike on a credit card). yeah.

heath: my dream situation would be to piece together a cross style bike with slick tires. of course looking for deals, and purchasing parts as they come together.

well-put.

and yeah heath, you bike is fucking awesome. the newest roadbike geared bike ive ridden is my '74 centurion :/. non-friction shifters give me boners4dayssssssss

atmo indexing isn’t a big deal. for STI/ergolevers, absolutely, but DTs/bar end stuff (or thumbies) not so much.

also, why cross bike with slick tires? so you can ride on trails with a tire swap? or just for clearances and comfort?
