the eightfold path to bicycle nirvana
(is the working title of my ebook)
bikes and cars i think go through similar lifespan phases
0-5 years old: shiny new thing you love
5-10 years old: starting to need some maintenance but youre like i can’t part with it now, this is my every day thing i love, but maybe i just cut my losses now
10-15 years old: this thing is starting to look dated and unfashionable and i see these other shiny new things around that i might want better
15-25 years: everyone’s thing looks better than mine and everyone is laughing at my old out of date equipment that i can’t get parts for without upgrading everything or installing claris
25+ years old: cool and collectable
gotta either stick it out for the long game or play the sell/buy every 5 years game.
send the mone back home to the motherland
Taiwan?
change years to months and it applies to my relationship with bicycles.
maybe weeks.
several factors speed it up.
after about 2 seasons i wear out all the expensive parts on my mtb and want to throw it away for a new one.
Ohhhh you RIDE bikes. Fascinating, what’s that like.
expensive, all the parts get worn out.
so at least you don’t have all that maintenance piling up if you get a new bike every 90 days
