Please Tarck, I implore you, help me make all my bike decisions

If I have the choice of 35mm or 45mm deep carbon wheels, which should I get? Same price.

How are you going to be riding

Rolling terrain, 15-18mph (aspirationally). Not too spirited probably.

35 front 45 rear

That’d be neat but I don’t think it’s an option because these are coming on a complete bike from Fairlight

But basically you’re saying there’s probably no massive benefit of 45mm wheels for the kind of riding I’m doing.

Light bicycle has a 37.5mm depth rim if you’re into that sort of thing.

I’ve got the 45mm PUB rims and they’re fine. No dramas with cross winds or anything like that. Probably would’ve gone with these even if 35 was an option cos they look cool.

So, I get to the bike shop to order it, and the 58cm in this year is sold out.

He shows me what next year looks like - and it’s gloss white.

I’m considering mismatching everything just so I can use that joke.

45mm, won’t be a significant weight/crosswind penalty over the 35s, but there will be aero benefit, plus deeper wheels look deeper cool

am thinking of smanging a ‘22 sj alloy with sram sx group, used asking price about a bong.

can’t really find anything else worthwhile in this price range, a siskiu d7se is about $400 more shipped

sx is kinda :colbert: but it appears to be the best i can find atm.

I could start looking for you. What’s your distance limit from home? I’ve found my friend half a dozen nice bikes under $1500 here (that he won’t buy).

Will a first gen Krampus finally scratch my 29+ ATB itch, or is the geo too dated by now? Usual mtb is a TJack w/ a 140 fork.

outdated out of the gate and a poopturd at that. get a rigid fork for the tjack and run 29x3 front and 29x2.99 in the back.

Yeah, there are SO many cool ATBs in the space now. Settling for that gaspipe at this point? Nah.

I’d look into a Tumbleweed Sunliner, Brother Big Bro, or a Singular Swift personally. If you’re fairly median-sized, you’d be insane not to look at a Stooge.

Yeah, at this in life point Surly might not be my answer.

Just always have liked running the biggest tires on all my bikes and 29+ is an experience I want to taste, but have not. Just not sure if I should do that in a more modern rowdy geo.

But like, want to run it rigid and just slow crawl and explore
So, maybe a fat bike and a 29+ wheelset should be my jam.

I’m 6’3" / 190.5 cm so on tall spectrum.

Yeah, Stooge is out. They stop at 20", unfortunately.

A Kona Unit X might be great for you, it’s a modern aggressive geo and the reach might be right up your alley - if 2.8" tires create the vibe enough. Really good price, too. It’s got a low stack, but throw a BMX stem and a pair of Stooge Junkers and you’d have a fun mess-around bike.
