Please Tarck, I implore you, help me make all my bike decisions

RSD Sergeant maybe, or look for a RM Suzi Q

29+ going forwards looks dubious, but not impossible to stock up and backfill with 2.8s.

The problem with going rowdy is the tires aren’t really built for it. Forks get interesting, either you have to find the Unicorn Fox 29+ or pick a fat fork.

I’ll put in a plug for 27.5 x 4 Van Helga 120 TPI, they roll really fast and feel more like a new experience than going from 29 x 2.4 to 3"

+1 kona unit
i love mine, sup just got one too

I want to keep to a rigid fork in this mental dither, but that’s always where I get confused geo-wise.

The Salsa Beargrease was another frame I always have an eye on. I know 29+ is a bit of a dead end, but that makes me consider it more as trying it before it might fully die. I have 1 Maxxis Chronicle 29x3 tucked safely away as a hope.

If Jeff Jones and unicyclists can keep the market for Duro Crux 3.25s going then at least you have a big aggressive option. Maybe Terrene keeps the Cake Eater 2.8 and then with the Teravail Oxbow 2.8 there’s a fast rolling option.

The 27.5 x 3 Oxbows on those Pub carbon plus rims were fun, light, chubby, fast rolling (perceptually, no idea about actual wattz).

Trek Stache might be worth keeping an eye out for too.
This list is helpful, nice that they also list discontinued but worth looking for models at the bottom.

Was reading through that list last night, again, lol

Look at the reach, the Beargrease has geo that’s almost as old as the Krampus. It might be pretty cramped compared to a modern bike like the Kona Unit.

What’s your saddle height?

I still have a large purple Jones LWB frameset with a unicrown fork if you’re Jones curious. At least height wise, you’re in the middle of their recommended range for the large size.

Fucking Salsa.

They redesigned the site and deleted all their archived bikes.

I should have saved the page for my Vaya years ago. (sigh)

Under ‘Frame Instructions’ there is at least some info still.

Interesting, let me check later and get back to you.

No rush

Just FYI it’s hanging up at a local shop on consignment, but I’m not expecting it to sell anytime soon.

This makes sense if you have a use case for a fat bike. I have an Ice Cream Truck with this setup. Geometry is pretty modern. Top tube is long. There is a q-factor penalty with fat bb width.

The new 20” MK7 stooge looks decent for 6’3”.

After having a twisted DT Lynskey I’ve just realized I don’t want anything other than a regular straight tube frame. Just don’t like the ‘weird’ attention.

So, I kinda hate ‘modern mtb geo’ right now.

The seat tube on the Banshee Phantom is way too steep for 80% of my terrain which is flat with some technical undulating trails - no sustained climbs or descents.

I could go hard tail with my 140mm fork and gain maybe 2º, not sure if that’s enough. I don’t have as many choices as in the 'states.

I’m contemplating saying ‘screw this’ and going full rigid - the Nordest Sardinha 2 is pretty modern in reach and head angle, but has a seat tube around 74º which would work just fine. I could embrace ATB life for a while.

Anyone else able to relate?

@lantius might be in the market?

Should I get the GT Speed or Meybo Clipper Disc? Chehalem Valley and Molalla River are my closest tracks.

What size are you after? If you want a 21.25" I’ll make you a good deal on a box of parts to build a 125R

Otherwise grab the GT, track bud has one and it’s real nice to ride

I probably need a ~22" top tube. My old track bike was a 56 mm ETT (effectively 22") and I would bang my knees on the stem bolts all the time. I’m leaning toward the older GT cos TAF.
