when you get tired of it, I’ll trade you something
Talk you out of it? Here?
Just get the Anchor bars with it, if you can. They’re really comfy and are the most aesthetic bmx-influenced bars IMO.
Not talking you out of this. Do it.
welp.
i would never buy a danish bike
He’s originally Canadian, so maybe he can speak his mother tongue clearly
I’ve been riding my Hunter-Gatherer on singletrack lately. I enjoy climbing and am getting a little better riding downhill on dirt trails (or at least more confident). I am definitely enjoying my time in the foothills (especially in the cooler months).
Should I get a proper mountain bike? I like the idea of a fully rigid XC 29er with a dropper. I also like the idea of riding single speed. Riding buddy has a similar set-up, and spends most of his time riding off-road.
I have some money saved and there’s an older Ritchey P-29er available locally that seems like a decent build.
Kona Unit looks like it would do the same job at the same price, but with the added bonus of mounting points for light bikepacking.
What’s the prudent move here?
kona unit is a great bike
never had a ritchey but i don’t think those p-29ers have sliding dropouts, do they?
Ratchet isn’t as but is a way better frame than the Kona.
Ss rigid is real niche to try to find local.
hell yeah!
SS Unit is like $1200 brand new, which is a pretty solid deal ATMO. If you’re somewhat between sizes go with the larger of the two though.
gonna need some real tires. something weird going on with the brakes
this is fun
Yeah, the brakes are a mismatch, but presumably in working order. I can replace those. Never rode with Jones bars (think those have a higher/taller rise?) but they seem like something I’d like. Can’t do flat bars because they’re never comfortable.
That Reeb looks like fun. I am curious about belt drive, but it’s too small and out of my price range.
He’s got it on eBay for more money.
love my belt drive
Yep, those are the 2.5" riser Jones bars.
I was gonna buy a pair but you’ve talked me out of it. Sounds like my size 14s wouldn’t even fit through the ankle hole.
been riding in them lately and they are nice. ankle issue persists. you could always mod them a little.
Ankle zips!
I’m looking for a 48-52 cm drop bar with moderate flare. Right now I have Salsa Cowchippers in 52cm on Snowaguchi, and they flared parts are kind of ridiculous. It’s seeing mostly road duties these days, so I don’t need that flare - but I still want bars wider than 46cm, I can’t go back.
I’ve had these PNW Coast bars before, and they have a really nice shape, and some flare that makes them a bit more stable on rough terrain. But, they are a bit harsh, at least compared to the Cowchippers. They were the top candidate so far. I’d just use thick tape.
But, l found these new Nitto/BlueLug all-road bars, and they look promising - the 52cm size looks especially good, as it’ll give me my really comfy hoods position, and a lower, more useful drop when avoiding headwinds. And the slight backsweep looks comfy on the tops.
Anyone experienced with modern Nitto bars care to chime in? Do they tend to make comfy bars, or stiff boat anchors? TIA.
