wanna get up in this thread but i still can’t find a single road race on bikereg in the state of md for this season.

brian, we gonna go smash the cat 5s right? bobby where you at?

cherry pie was sketchy. dudes, dont sit up in the last 500 m looking at each other and just fucking go.

my sprint is getting better, although it’s still very un-proportional to my 20 min ftp power profile. I need a road race so all you fat guys can’t beat me

Well this weekend was surprising (the encouraging kind, not the kind that bums you out)

Crit on Saturday (lap profile: http://app.strava.com/segments/636989). Got to the line nice and warm, but towards the back of the field. First 10 minutes were absurdly quick, spent my time trying to hold on for dear life while moving up into mid pack. 10 laps in started working my way towards the front, where I stayed for a while, with 15 to go launched a bit of an attack to try and shed riders, then a break of 2 countered and got clear of the pack (~15 riders). After a few laps my teammate launched a bridge attempt w/ one other rider, so I sat on the front and after no one responded I began launching attacks to try and shatter the field. On the descent on final lap was sitting 4th wheel of main bunch since I knew I could slingshot out of the corners around them, but 2nd wheel hopped his rear, 3rd wheel ran into him, and I had to scrub speed to catch. Out of the last corner was 4 bike lengths down on the rider in front and managed to nearly get him, leaving me with 6th on the day, 2nd from the chase group. My teammate ended up winning which was awesome.

Immediately after the crit while trying not to vomit my teammates told me that one of our other B’s was feeling sick so I was getting to TTT in the morning. Up at 5:15am, reg took forever so no warmup before TTT at 7:37. Felt shitty and out of sync (also cuz not warm in 46* w/o warmup) the whole time, but beat the next best team in the B’s by over a minute on the 10.7mi lap for 1st. Woo.

RR at 11, first 10.7mi lap went way too fast, 2nd/3rd were super slow. Break w/ one of our riders ended up going. Lap 4 a concerted chase started, I sat 4th wheel and countered everything so our sprinter could be fresh. All but one UCSD rider ended up coming back. Last lap, coming out of the corner 600m before the finish guy in front of me stood up to catch the group and unclipped, making me scrub speed and trying to come around. Couldn’t catch the group (fortunately w/ our sprinter + 2 other teammates in it) 30m up the road, looked back and next group was 60m behind so cruised across the finish line for 14th to learn our sprinter took 2nd in field sprint for 3rd. http://app.strava.com/activities/40518182

I was not expecting to have anywhere near this good of form given I’ve been riding only since Jan after 4mo out of the country. My goal was to last 15 laps in the crit and hold onto the main group in RR, with no planned TTT, so scoring points in all races w/ a win, a top 10, and a top 15 had me more than pumped for UCSC in two weeks - RR is 15 2.6mi laps w/ 400ft/lap for 6k in 39mi, crit pancake flat 5 corner, no TTT.

Immediate goal is talk to teammates and see if I can convince any to race Pine Flat with me, looking realistic to get my 3s in order soon.

Looking good!

Also noticed that your team has a huge contingent heading to Valley of Fire. Friend is trying to convince me to go down with him. There is a small chance it may happen. Who else from Tarck is doing this race? Anyone have an idea what hotels run in Overton?

Ryan, you can either stay in Overton, or I can put you and your buddy up. Spare room/bed collabo. Idk if anyone else from tarck besides maybe Brady (forgot his tarck name) who might be doing it. I know a buddy of mine on the same team its coming down. Our team had a petty lengthy discussion about where we were gonna put riders. yeah, the 3/4 field is petty stacked, but it’s one of the few local races we have out here and we’re making it a point to come out in numbers.

15 or 16 registered riders in the Cat 3-4 field? The team to beat!

Would LOVE to take you up on that extremely generous offer of a place to rest. With the short notice, I won’t know if this is going down until Wednesday morning, the final day of registration. With 58 people already registered and a 75 field limit, we might not get in. If we do and that offer still stands, I’ll let you know. Don’t feel obligated to hold it if someone else is more likely to use it. Thanks again!

<—Brady

A couple of my teammates are going, Nick included of course, but not me. I’m far too slow and fat to justify travelling for a race right now.

Yo Brady! I’m stoked to see Nick.
Ryan, yeah…we hope it isn’t going to hinder people from registering. The 4-6 3s we have in the field, including myself, don’t really feel like throwing ourselves into the 1/2/3 field. I already know who’s winning the crit. Honestly, we’re more there to support our 4s, as we want them all to move up by the season’s end.

There was a stupid long stretch of awful weather out here that really messed with my ability to ride, hard to get outside when the roads are covered in ice for a month. If not for that I would probably head down for the race as well. Good luck; that said, I’m rooting for my teammates to destroy you all.

shop bro doin VoS, jealousy

tc: i am really out of shape and it makes me sad and frustrated

It sucks to be slower, but you have a valid excuse to ride lots. I’d say you have a worthy challenge ahead of you… &^) The crap weather here has made me stir crazy and lusting after mountain passes.

Psyching myself out for Snelling for some reason. It’s a really flat race, with just a couple of rollers in the middle and a slightly uphill finish, and the E5’s the past couple years averaged about 19 mph, which seems slow. Don’t think I should be worrying too much, I feel like I could ride the course solo and average close to that. This’ll be my first road race, so maybe I’ve just got some nerves because I don’t know what to expect. On the bright side, I’ll have a few teammates with me, one of which I’ve worked with before in the early birds and is a solid rider. It’s a team target event, but not one of my personal target races, so I shouldn’t even care really. But fuck that I want to place. Also I hate the cold, and it’s probably gonna be like 32 at the 8:30 AM start. Hoping that if I position myself right for the last corner the uphill sprint will work to my advantage? My FTP probably isn’t good enough to have any chance at breaking/staying away, but maybe if my teammates get into something I’ll try to join.

Also I fired my coach and signed up with coach Dr. Wikipedia. He’s been more responsive in 1 week than my old coach had been in 2 months, so that’s a plus. Also she still didn’t respond to my goodbye e-mail.

Did my first long sweet spot ride today, it was kinda painful as expected but not as bad as 2x20s. I PR’ed on a whole bunch of segments, too. Also I think being at high altitude for 2 days helped?

Here’s advice: breakaways hardly stay away until the 3s.
