while this is definitely true, the shorter the duration is on the power curve, the bigger the advantage for mvdp.
if pog didn’t have the juice to drop him on the hills, he was never gonna win in a sprint. i find the whining about being boxed in to be hillarious. if mvdp openned a gap on him while he was on the wheel, there’s not a chance in hell he could ever close a 2 bike-lenght gap and come around him outside of the slipstream.
I’m not saying it would have worked but it was the last card he could have played. If he went early MDVP would have dieseled right past him. If he left it late and lucked into catching our boy napping it would be the only possible circumstance that would somehow get him the W. Damned if you do damned if you don’t.
There’s too much going on in the Wout video to see or hear anything, but I’m 99% certain Laporte was riding a flat when it happened. He was rumbling down the road way louder than the rider in front of him.
