Relationship Accelerator: tandem thread

Is the end cap pressed in? It might be 7/8 ID…

Those would be great if they weren’t cracked. But I think I’m going to try to stay away from getting any matching colors because this purple is so weird. Gonna stick with silver components for now and maybe spice it up with a few small complimentary colors.

It’s brazed in. Just measured, 25.4.

And here’s a better shot of it.

Anyone know anything about the ritchey breakaway tandem? I keep seeing rumors that there’s a redesigned one coming out for 2020. Would definitely buy one if it’s at all like the ones I’ve seen

Related question: If i’m looking for an s and s couplered tandem, realistically who am i looking at? I’d want to stay below $5bong for the frameset, and ideally $3000 would be the sweet spot. I really don’t think we can do a Bike Friday.

So far i’ve got

  • Comotion
  • Rock Lobster
  • eBay
  • Rodriguez

You could S&Sify an existing tandem? It would cost somewhere up of $1000, but that’s still cheaper than $5k or even $3k.

What’s the market for a used S&S co-motion like in the US? Any chance of getting one in your size? One sold in AU in Sept, with cases, a bionx electric kit and regular rear wheel all for less than the bionx was worth.

Listing is dead now, this is all I have: image

couplers add two grand pretty much everywhere.
Our tandem right now is great, and we love it, but in order to get it the way we wanted, everything is adaptors on shims on shims. I just don’t know if it makes sense to spend $2bong, without also adding thru axles, hydro discs, rack mounts, new fork at the same time, and at that point, it’s not even really the same bike.
We were also toying with buying something used and adding couplers, and also i’m not in a hurry so i can just keep an eye out on ebay and craigslist. we are both pretty average size, but a lot of the stuff i’m finding is for very narrow tires.

Ritchey Breakaway is sub 5 bongs complete with cases.

i hadn;t seen one in stock anywhere. rumor is that its getting a redesign for 2020. hopefully thru axles?

That would make sense. I always thought it was vaporware so I was surprised to see them for sale.

It is true we will have a new updated tandem BreakAway in 2020. At this time we do not have a good eta on availability yet. Details are still being kept under wraps for now but I do know it is limited production and it will be offered as a frameset that includes wheels.

All sold out everywhere.

Probably definitely not an answer to your question but I’ve always wondered how the Bike Friday tandems feel/ride:

yeah, me too. i see a decent number of them around, but I am skeptical of small wheel bikes. The streets are really bad here, and I really worry about having the wheel swallowed up by potholes. I’m curious to see how the minivelo stuff catches on here, specifically for that reason.

$1100

Cheap. From the weirdos at American Cyclery. Good story on it too.
