As far as i know. no one in the industry powder coats aluminum frames.
Why don’t you guys just use oil base paint? is it because of environmental standards in the US?
Also you would be hard pressed to find an anodizing tank big enough for a frame. if you can find it. i would say go for it. Just make sure you or they polish the frame nicely before hand. It is a lot of work.
I just purchased one of these off of craigslist (well my friend did but im paying him in lumps as i sell off some shit) for $650 today, the previous owner basically ruined it. it was spray painted slime green and the original coat was sanded and fucked up underneath, it was also covered in stickers. The bb and headset are stock, the cranks are dura ace ROAD cranks, the wheels are shitty mavic road rims laced to surly hubs. Good eai cog, mks pedals carbon seatpost… I think i got a pretty good deal though, they were originally asking 900 which is ridiculous if you could of seen it (i have no pictures) Im gonna clean it up and eventually get it powder coated.
Im very confused with the geometry on this bike though, It was posted as a 59cm, i checked it out and it fit me fine like a 59cm, but i go home measure it c-top tube and somhow i get like a 56cm…but it still fits me and im 6’2(a little small, but comfortably). the cranks are 175’s, but the top tube is still about an inch from nut level. 22in x 2.54?
DA road cranks are fine, assuming that the chainline is ok.
What do you mean by “shitty mavic road rims?”
I’d get a real paint job on it. Sometimes you can find shops that’ll throw it in and spray it with something else for cheap.
Standover doesn’t matter as long as the bike fits.
You can use google as a calculator. Google “22 in to cm” and it’ll hook up the conversion.

It’s the same as any electroplating tank, and they make those large enough to fit whole car frames.

sure. and i actually did anodize my frame. But i don’t think many people have access to one that can fit a car frame.

Gene Spicer does, but he’s more or less a one-man operation. most companies do use wet paint. however, if an end-user wants to refinish his frame, it’s ususally more economical to powdercoat by about 50% over a quality wet paint job.
oh, and to answer the original question, it’s perfectly safe to powdercoat aluminum. people do it all the time.
Ridley powder coats aluminum frames.

Know anything about putting a 1/8th chainring on DA road cranks? the teeth are slightly bending on mine and some are chipped since its not meant for fixed.
Nvm what i said about the rims, i didn’t know anything about them.
Im considering my painting options
And the bike fits me, its just not what im used to.
I was wondering if you could anodize bike frames, not sure that i’d do it…probably costs alot. Im just gonna do a nice spray paint job until i decide what i wanna do professionally. Thanks for everyones help and suggestions.
