Similar thing happened to the headset on my 1x1. Everything was a bit fucked and some balls fell out and it just won’t work anymore, luckily have a complete new HS in the parts bin for some reason. Just waiting for a cheapo removal tool to get the cups out as they are in there way too tight for the ol’ “bash em out with a screwdriver” trick.
I need to get a new removal tool to work with the bottom cups of bigger head tubes. I grabbed this park removal and headset press from a prof at uni nearly 18 or so years ago. But I was able to able it to start popping bottom cup out.
Can you just spread the tines of the removal tool to make it work with the wider lower?
I am sure I could do that.
Really not even sure how this happened. Obviously the derangler is in the spokes, but the specifics that I remember are
- Take bike out of shed and into street
- Start pedaling
- BLAM
Hanger is bent as fuck but I’m gonna try to bend it back I guess. Seems like a framebuilder could fix it otherwise. It’s the nerdavinden so I really want to keep riding it.
I def miss the ride of the nerdavinden, but sold it to tarcker when coffee grinder came through. But damn was that a good riding bike. Maybe night moves got a big closer to that ride, but I figured i didn’t really need three endpoints to only ride 1.5 at best.
that derailleur hanger is now more like a dangler smangler
Is that the frank or the beans?
I have both, I love my night moves but a nerdavinden it aint.
I’m not sure if it’s because I have the NM built up all fancy with carbon wheels and all that, but it doesn’t plane the same way.
That being said I’d ride the NM all day anyway and be very happy about it.
It’s just extremely double bummer because I just got the nerdavinden built up all supercomfy townie upright style and now this.
I’m late in getting around to this, but the King clamp is what caused the crushing. Switching to my Phil clamp, it torques normally, even with the shagged post.
The Phil clamp won’t fit on the frame with a shim, unlike the King (and still overtorques). My battery-less calipers read fractionally larger on the King. Anyway, post and clamp replaced.
So because I’m vain and fragile and want all my cockpit components to match, just this once, I stuck two aluminum can shims in the King seat clamp and now it behaves. Seems like a missed opportunity that King isn’t selling anodized shims.

Thats a bummer! Is this yours?
