shut up n00b
am I reading the thread correctly that I should be riding with full finger gloves not in the winter and not when mtb?

It comes down to your preference of course, but I personally won’t be going back to the cutoff jawns, so, yes?
I only wear gloves for cold or mtb and for mtb only cause I end up cracking my knuckles on trees
It’s what I do but I’m just used to it. I like the feel on glossy brake levers better, especially when sweaty. Easier to take on and off. Maybe a little bit better crash protection? It’s not like my fingertips get hotter than when I wear no-finger gloves
Full finger definitely sucks if you are going to futz with your phone a lot tho. None of the touchscreen features have much dexterity or durability
Some of the guys I worked with when I was an audio/lighting guy for events and concerts and stuff swore by “framer” gloves where the ends of your thumb, pointer and middle finger were still exposed.
in that environment you’re pushing cases, lifting heavy stuff, and also need to do things that require dexterity, like dealing with cables etc., but at that point only 2 of 5 fingers (assuming you have all your fingers) have full coverage so why not just go full fingerless? I never tried them myself though so I can’t really comment on how they are in practice, just saying there is sort of a middle ground.
these actually look somewhat cool
Turns out i already own a pair of DNDs
I have smashed my right hand several times on trees and rocks. I was using Dakine CrossX gloves that had some armor, but the rocks in Bend just shredded them.
I use the Leatt MX gloves for general protection now. But, I also have hand guards on the enduro bike.
Putting in a plug for Defeet knit wool gloves. They go from mellow rides in the upper 40s all the way down to rides and skis in the low 20s (with a shell glove over them). I get a min of two seasons and will often lose them before they wear out.
If it is wet and chilly, but not super cold, I prefer these to anything that attempts to be waterproof.
Troy Lee Designs Sprint gloves for me. Thin mesh, zero padding, nice and stretchyish.
I have big fat hands but my fingers are not proportionally as long. Most XXL or 3XL gloves that I can actually get my hand into end up with flappy fingertips, which I hate.
These TLD work well.
Answer Fall Line XC gloves. These are thicker all around than the TLD gloves above, with thicker/warmer mesh back and a thicker palm. Also have small reinforcement patches between the thumb and forefinger, and on the outer heel. Thicker snot wiper too. Still unpadded. The very cool thing is these are the only pull-on (no velcro tab) gloves that I have ever found that I can actually fit my hand into but then that fit nice and snug once my hand is inside.
I have a set of each of the above gloves (the TLD and the Answers) that when a fingertip wears out I have cut off the rest and use them as unpadded short finger gloves. Not sure I’d do it to a new pair but worth considering.
I’m a Hestra bike guard fan since our old friend @turpentine mentioned them years ago
Handup gloves have great touch screen compatibility, are cheap, don’t last very long, and have a great warranty.
I am still using my old pair of hestras from then. they are kind of gross now but they still work.
Dude I lost some in my friend’s yard in the mountains here one summer. His parents found them next spring after the snow melted. I still use them.
I just bought a pair of short finger Hestras. They look great atmo.
I’ve been wearing Black Bibs gloves for years. They’re great too and the price is right but the colors are blah.
Last night I found a NOS pair of old fashioned Planet Bike knit gloves which is a style I wore daily through most of my 20s. Brand new knit gloves made my hands look like this lol:
this thread reminds me I should nab these flame guys for fall and winter riding: Roper Glove - Leather - Black – Thrashin Supply
which Hestra glove is that? I have a pair of their gloves (the apex) and they’re very nice but I found them too thick/heavy for hot weather - mainly the material around the wrist.
It’s the Sprint. I’m stoked to try them out.
Hell no. No finger loops? How TF am I supposed to take them off?
Look real nice otherwise ..
