smoothing welds

tig? I’ve been sunburned from ~2 minutes of welding…

Worst welding burn I got was on the tender bits inside my biceps. I did a welded for a couple of hours in a wife beater. I’ve stopped welding without gloves as I’ve burned my hands a couple times.

Oh yeah, TIG produces more UV than MIG or regular old arc welding doesn’t it? I haven’t done any TIG welding, so I guess that would explain it. I didn’t realize it was that much more though, crazy.

In the summer usually wear gloves and a hood, but that’s about it. I try to stick to long pants, but sometimes I even weld in shorts. I’m kinda sick of burning holes in all my clothes though, I kinda want to go out and buy some good gear.

i only weld in a tshirt for short periods, tacking etc.

mind you i’m mostly MIG welding at ~200A.

Nope. An arc is an arc. The intensity of the light correlates with the amount of current. FCAW (flux core) and SMAW (stick) are smoky and emit less UV light as a result.
