how many lives have been ruined by entering the small batch tire business?

Great point, ther’es already companies out there doing this for automotive/motorcycle tires so we know the tech and products exist and just need to be adapted to bike tires.

But, tires with tarck bear tread would be awesome.

Send us two different tires, we’ll cut them up and stitch them back together into a frankenset.

zipper tires already exist.

Sorry to derail the blur tire chat.

What are y’all using to navigate the world of tire pressure preference in this supple and milky world we are in?

I’ve gone back to just the sidewall squeeze, and I’m wondering what all I’m missing out on.

Squeeze and measure. With a new tire I’ll pump it up till it feels a little too stiff by the 'ol squeeze test and make note of what that pressure actually is. I’ll go for a ride and gradually let a little bit of pressure out at a time till it feels just right and when i get home I measure and note that pressure. I’ll go +/- 5psi from there usually after riding it a bit more. I don’t tend to run different pressures in the same tire for different terrain and types of rides though which some folks do.

The biggest thing is measuring the pressure because the tire squeeze feels different at different times, before and after rides, etc.

I mean this exists for highlighting grooves in motorcycle tires. So you’re not far off. https://www.revzilla.com/tire-penz

I was thinking of the sidewall sticker things that are basically just sheets of some kinda special rubber like a self vulcanizing patch and the stencils/special paint. I can’t think of the names right now.

Duh, just looked up tire stickers https://www.tirestickers.com

not as many as the small batch bike frame business

Most tire manufacturers are actual businesses and you have to make a big enough order and have enough money to pay them so it weeds out way more people than custom/small frame building. Bicycles frame building seems to attract lots of weirdos.

No promises, but I have already started talks with a TW manu who makes very well regarded tires. I am listening…

My dude, if you can make an ETRTO tubeless 584/48 that falls somewhere between Vittoria Terreno and RH in ride quality you will rule that segment. I’ll lobby hard with any and all of the brands I stock to spec it.

I would STRONGLY urge you to take potential OEM sales into consideration when you get to naming/branding.

420 grams and a bead that isn’t Panaracer. Sealant will take care of the rest.

I’d be curious to know what the financial commitment would need to be for a minimum run of a tire of a given type.

two ways to look at it. More expensive tooling, less expensive per piece or less tooling and each piece is expensive. Either way the initial layout for tooling and MOQ is pretty significant. Also, factories don’t want to do one run. The initial investment also insures that the customer stays with them.
