Nope

Tufo actually invented the direct predecessor to modern latex sealant because it can work very well in their tire-shaped objects. Clement and a few others also make tube-free “garden hose” tubulars.

but Fuck No never prophylactically put sealant in a real worthwhile tubular with a latex inner tube

Conti Sprinters are gross but have butyl tubes, so you can’t ruin them any worse by doing so

DQ: What’s the consensus on checking your levels? 3 months? 6 months?

I’ve been using the dipstick thing that comes with the smaller Orange Seal bottle to check every now and then…but I let my CG run dry and found out the hard way.

They say 6, but I like 3.

Dipstick? Am I not doing this correctly at all?

I dunno, I remove the valve core and dunk the black plastic stick thing in the below photo to get an idea of the fluid level without having to pop the tire off the rim.

It seems to cling enough to get an idea if there’s still fluid in the tire.

I think I’ve bought 3 bottles of orange seal, none of them has ever included that dipstick.

The bottle I got has one, but if I’m going through the trouble of dipping the stick, I might as well just squirt some more sealant in there.

Lol, Janny says “at least once a month”.

Sounds about right. he can see through his sidewalls.

Inflate before every ride. New tire every 6 weeks.

I like to replace my rim tape every 2 weeks
grease the valve stem/nut threads before every ride

Also make sure to tension your spokes at every water break mid ride.

That’s a cool video.
Why do people talk so much shit about Park Tools?

I dunno, Calvin seems like a pretty cool dude, always loved his videos.

I think the price they charge for the quality of (some) of their tools is why people talk shit. But as for a good company image and proactive in the community you can’t really talk shit. Their website is 95% a resource for home mechanics and like 5% product facing for sales.

I don’t see a lot of shit being talked, but there’s a lot of valid criticism of their tool quality relative to price. For example, they apparently had a 100% failure rate on their Campagnolo bearing puller. I went through FOUR before they redesigned the tool (which still sucks) and getting it warrantied was possible, but involved a lengthy lecture from some douche on the phone about how everyone is using it wrong. Then there are little things, like the slop in their derailleur alignment tool, which maybe is fixed now because Abbey made a big stink about their tool not sucking, but that doesn’t help anyone who bought that tool between the years 1989 and 2016.

But generally I have pretty positive feelings about Park.

It’s mostly the pot metal cone wrenches. I would put talking shit on Park as sort of like tarck hazing- it’s dumb and pointless, but really we just do it because we want them to fix their shit.
