BTW Goodyear eagle tires are perfectly acceptable and they look cool
Most of the Q / Teravail tubes Iāve consumed have removable cores, but donāt think thatās the case across all their tubes. Iāve had one or two from them that didnāt.
The Contis Iāve bought lately in 27.5ā and 700c sideways have had removable cores.
You can still milk a fixed core if the right tubes donāt manifest. Takes a bit of surgical tubing, a touch of patience, a pinch of swearing. Not too bad.
Are teravail tubes still splitting apart at the seams or did they fix that? Iāve been using Conti tubesā¦removable core and miraculously donāt just fall apart.
I have a Specialized tube with a removable core. No idea if theyāre still made that way since itās a few years old.
Iāve had 3-4 Conti tubes that have fallen apart in the past year. Also had the crappy Teravail tubes fall apart back in 2020ish. Good thing most of my bikes are tubeless now
wild how much smaller this is. iāve used tubolito TPU tubes and a few others from big brands but not an ali express one like this. excited to give it a spin on the road bike
So whatās the consensus on the fastest nicest 34-36 mm tubeless tires right now?* I am looking forward to the spring when I will take off the Goodyear turds.
*No knobbies
Conti GP5kā¦with whatever additional abbreviations indicate itās the latest and greatest.
fastest? probably a gp5k or Vittoria Corsa something-or-other
Maybe not the fastest but Strada Biancas are $45 right now. Theyāre pretty fast.
That was the first thing I looked at, it only comes in up to 32?
Yeah I was assuming it was Challenge, they are pretty too. Arenāt they satanic to get to seal?
Oh and are Bon Jon Pass still impossible to get to seal or have other problems?
The handmade ones seal up easily in my experience. The slower vulcanized ones take longer.
I seem to recall you saying something about the difference in ride quality between handmade and vulcanized?
Goddammit, havenāt you been paying attention, I feel like Iām shilling for Continental at this point.
GP5000 AS TR 35mm is the fastest 35mm tire on the market. Note the āAS TRā moniker which is āall-seasonā I guess and distinct from their āS TRā which is slightly faster, only goes up to 32mm and has less puncture resistance and worse wet grip. Hereās the complete list that you should be considering:
This list is sorted by rolling resistance āmediumā which is 50PSI for 35mm, about what I run my rear at. The positions in the list shift somewhat when pressures get higher.
Iāve ridden 3 of the tires on this list having just pulled the gp5k S TR 32 off my bike and put on the gp5k AS TR 35. The difference in speed is neglible and the difference in comfort is huge.
Previously, Iāve gone through a couple sets of Strada Bianca Pro HTLR 36. They are wonderful tires, incredibly supply, very fast, and also unfortunately delicate. Wet grip also suffers a great deal, to the extent that itās slightly disturbing.
Iāve tried to run the faster Schwalbe tires previously, but theyāre a PITA to get my hands on. The naming convention is difficult to parse, not just for the consumer, but also for the people selling them. In some cases, the names are the sames but the versions iterate and one version is distinctly better or worse than another. Every time Iāve tried to order a set, itās gone awry.
32s have been plenty for me on Maine DOTās finest asphalt and dirt roads and Acadia carriage roads. Whatās motivating going wider on a road bike?
Thanks! Yes I havenāt been paying attention and there are a lot of posts in this thread most of which are not relevant to me. Thank you for TLDRing for me, I appreciate it
Now go buy a fancy shirt!
Nothing other than variety since my pink English will take a 32 already
Closet is all full of fancy shirts and stock on that particular tire is drying up. Iāve had luck on ebay. Hereās some.
interesting that the Snoqualmies are competitive both in resistance and weight, at 5-10mm larger actual
I just ordered the tan-wall 35s, expected in January so even if it is very late it is still fine.
